Multiple roads in Kahului and Lahaina are closed due to excessive flooding. Here is a running list of traffic advisories for Maui County.

Roadways across Maui remain hazardous due to debris, flooding and limited turnaround space. There are still multiple road closures and traffic advisories in place. Here is an ongoing list of road closures…

A County of Maui Department of Public Works reconstruction project that was scheduled to close both lanes on portions of Makawao Avenue, is being delayed to start Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, due to the potential for rain this weekend.

Motorist and road users are advised that lanes will be closed overnight at the Puʻunēnē Avenue (Route 3500) and the West and the East Kamehameha Avenue intersection, Friday night into Saturday.  

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises road users that one lane in either direction on North Kīhei Road will be closed from 9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 28 to 5 a.m., Friday, Aug. 29 for safety improvements.

To maintain safe and reliable service, Hawaiian Electric contractors will be conducting tree trimming along Piʻiholo Road in the Upcountry Maui area on Thursday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Motorists are advised that eastbound and westbound lanes of Kaʻahumanu Avenue (Route 32) between Kāne Street and Lono Avenue will be closed for paving work associated with the Maui Palms Hampton Inn project from 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, February. 19 to 5:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20.

(Update: 12:25 p.m., Jan. 16, 2025) The traffic signal at the intersection of Hāna Highway and Haleakalā Highway has been repaired.

Goodfellow Bros. will begin performing road work on Kekaulike Ave. at Mile 8.2 on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024. A Full road closure will be in effect for this construction area for the next nine months.

(Update: 4:55 p.m., April 25, 2024) Honoapiʻilani Highway is now completely OPEN. It was closed earlier due to a motor vehicle accident in which a vehicle went over the guardrail, and a separate incident near the Scenic Lookout involving a fire. Police tell Maui Now that the vehicle has been towed and the fire has been extinguished.

Northbound lanes of Honoapiʻilani Highway are closed at Mile 12 in Ukumehame due to power lines hanging from poles. At 8:42 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, traffic was being contra-flowed using the south bound lanes.

Maui police have reopened Mayor Elmer Cravalho Way as of 8:13 p.m. The road was closed n the east bound direction for several hours following a motor vehicle accident.

The Honoapiʻilani Highway is completely open. It was closed earlier due to a motor vehicle accident at Akahele Street near the Kapalua Airport.

The Department of Water Supply reports a water service outage and road closure on Puʻunēnē Ave. scheduled Sunday, Dec. 10 from 7:30 p.m. to Monday, Dec. 11 at 5 a.m. The section of Puʻunēnē Ave. between W. Kaʻahumanu Ave. to E. Kamehameha Ave will be closed in both directions.

A single vehicle accident has resulted in the closure of Akahele Street at Honoapiʻilani Highway; and Honoapiʻilani Highway at Lower Honoapiʻilani Highway.

Update: 3:14 p.m., July 13, 2023 The Hāna Highway is now OPEN in both directions. It was closed earlier this afternoon due to a motor vehicle accident involving multiple vehicles.

A water service outage has been reported at Kamaʻole Beach Park III and the Kīhei Boat Ramp. The Maui Department of Water Supply reports the outage will continue until 3:30 p.m. on June 7, due to a resurfacing project.
