The West Maui service area includes Lahaina, Kāʻanapali, Kahana, Māhinahina, Nāpili-Honokōwai, and Honokōhau. West Maui is experiencing continued dry weather and lack of rainfall. Therefore, the existing water shortage is being upgraded to a Stage 2 for West Maui until water source levels are adequate to meet demand.

Maui Council adopts resolution on recycled water in effort to preserve potable water for affordable housing

The County of Maui Department of Water Supply is declaring a Stage 1 water shortage for the Central Maui System, effective today. The National Weather Service reports extreme drought on Maui in the lower leeward slopes of Haleakalā between Māʻalaea and Wailea, and severe drought in Maui’s Central Valley and Upcountry. On Molokaʻi, severe drought worsened to extreme drought on the west side of the island. Lānaʻi has severe drought over most areas.

Upcountry Maui Water Shortage Lifted
A Stage 1 water shortage has been lifted for Upcountry. The decision was made due to near-normal rainfall, a short-term forecast for more wet weather and adequate water storage in Upcountry reservoirs.
