The World Surf League released the schedule for the 2026/27 Challenger Series, as well as announcing the addition of a new category of events, the Qualifying Series 6,000 International. The Challenger Series, together with the new QS 6,000 International events, will provide the pathway to compete on the elite Championship Tour for the 2027 season. 

Three-time World Champion John John Florence has announced that he will defer his return to the World Surf League, Championship Tour for another year. Florence, who was awarded the WSL Season Wildcard, has decided to withdraw from the 2026 CT and extend his break from full-time competition to continue to focus on his family and travel.

The World Surf League’s all-important Local Motion Surf Into Summer At Home In The Hawaiian Islands has its “likely” start on Monday, June 9.

The World Surf League Hawaiʻi/Tahiti Nui Qualifying Series returns to Tahiti for the Air Tahiti Rangiroa Pro, a men’s QS 1000, beginning March 3 through 7. This marks the final event of the men’s Hawaiʻi/Tahiti QS season to determine who will secure their place among the 2025 Challenger Series.

The World Surf League Hawaiʻi/Tahiti Nui Qualifying Series The Hawaiian Islands Sunset Pro, a men’s and women’s QS 1000, continues to wait for opening day start as event organizers have called Wednesday, Oct. 30, and Thursday, Oct. 31, OFF. A projected swell for the weekend could see competition get underway with the event needing three days to run.

The World Surf League 2023/2024 Big Wave season is officially open. This Big Wave season will feature events at two iconic locations: the TUDOR Jaws Big Wave Challenge at Peʻahi on Maui in the Hawaiian Islands; and the TUDOR Nazaré Big Wave Challenge in Nazaré, Portugal.  The holding period to run the competition at Nazaré opens today, and Peʻahi starts on Nov. 10. Both events’ holding periods close on March 31, 2024.

Maui surfers, Jackson Bunch and Eli Hanneman storm into Finals Day at the SAMBAZON World Junior Championships after posting strong heat totals, and earning Round of 16 victories.

Defending, three-time event winner, Billy Kemper of Maui, is gearing up for the Sunset Pro pres. by HIC. The event is on hold with the next official call, Sunday at 7 a.m. HST, with the event window going through Nov. 6.

The competition embraced two new winners, Weston-Webb, the first female goofy-foot to claim victory, and Ewing, who earned the first CT win of his career.

Tyler Wright (AUS) and Filipe Toledo (BRA) won the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, the fourth stop on the World Surf League 2022 Championship Tour. 

Currently sitting at No. 4 on the Challenger Series, Maui-born Imaikalani deVault needs one last result to secure his place within the Top 12 on the World Surf League’s Championship Tour.

The World Surf League has delivered a We Are One Ocean petition to the United Nations Convention on Biodiversity, calling on world leaders to protect and conserve 30% of the global ocean by 2030.

The event will await the best surfing conditions, running over one day, between Sept. 9-17 in the new, winner-take-all event to decide the undisputed 2021 World Champions.

Maui’s own Eli Hanneman, the current No. 1 ranked surfer on the Hawaiʻi Qualifying Series, received a wildcard into his first-ever Championship Tour event for a three-day competition at the Surf Ranch in Leemore, California.
