County of Maui offices, facilities and services will be closed or modified on Good Friday, April 18, 2025.

All County of Maui landfills (Central Maui, Molokai, Lānaʻi and Hāna) will be open normal hours on Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24, the Department of Environmental Management announced.

For the first time in nearly a decade, the County of Maui will be offering free Christmas tree recycling. 

Due to insufficient manpower, the Lānaʻi Landfill will close at 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15 and 16, 2017.

Due to insufficient staffing, the Lāna‘i Landfill will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18 through Saturday, Oct. 21.

Due to insufficient manpower, the Lāna‘i Landfill will close at 1 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12, 13 and 14, 2017 .

Due to insufficient staffing, the Lāna‘i Landfill will close at 1 p.m. today and on Friday, Oct. 6 and Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017.

Due to insufficient staffing, the Hāna Landfill will close at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 27, through Saturday, April 30, 2016.

Due to insufficient staffing, the Hāna Landfill will close at 1 p.m. on Feb. 9, 11, 18, 19 and 20, 2016 and the Lānaʻi Landfill will close at 1 p.m. Feb. 19 and 20, 2016.

County officials have announced yet another landfill partial closure due to insufficient staffing. The Molokaʻi Landfill will close at 1 p.m. today (Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015) through Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015.

The closures are necessary as the department must be able to ensure safe operations and meet the minimum State Department of Health operating requirements of our solid waste permit.

The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division, today announced that due to insufficient staffing, the Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi Landfills will close at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, July 15, 2015).

Insufficient staffing will result in the early closure this week of landfills in Hāna, and on the outer islands of Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi.

A staffing shortage on the island of Lānaʻi will result in the early closure of the landfill facility on Saturday, April 4, 2015.

Residents on Lanai are out of trash service this week and possibly next.  The island’s dump truck missed scheduled pickups on Monday and Tuesday because of a mechanical problem with the truck’s rear lift gate.
