Maui Veterans Highway is closed south bound between Hansen Road and Mehameha Loop and north bound from Piʻilani Highway, due to a single motor vehicle accident.

Highway closures are planned on the Maui Veterans Highway on Thursday morning, Oct. 6, 2022 between 2 and 5 a.m.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation advises the public of planned night work to upgrade operating systems at approximately 80 state-owned traffic signals across the island of Maui.

Maui police arrested a man who allegedly stole a vehicle and got into a head-on crash that forced the closure of the Maui Veterans Highway early Tuesday morning. The man is also accused of striking a responding officer in the face, and running into traffic in an attempt to evade police, where he was then struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Maui police believe that speed is a factor in a deadly head-on motor vehicle crash reported Monday morning on the Maui Veterans Highway near Kealia Wildlife Refuge. Police say the crash claimed the life of a 54-year-old Kīhei man.
