BREAKING: Three More Deaths, 140 New COVID-19 Cases

The state Department of Health is reporting three additional COVID-19 related deaths on the island of Oʻahu.  Details surrounding the cases is still forthcoming.  This also comes as the state reports another triple digit increase in new cases with 140 new cases today including 138 on Oʻahu and one case each on Maui and Kauaʻi.

BREAKING: DLIR Director Resigns After Months on Leave, New Leadership at DoTax and DLIR

After more than two months on leave, Department of Labor and Industrial Relations director, Scott Murakami has resigned.  Governor David Ige today announced today that his post will be temporarily filled by Anne E. Perreira-Eustaquio, who will serve as acting director for 60 days, or until the position is filled.

How to Apply for a Travel Exemption for Maui County

Effective Tuesday, Aug. 11, all travelers arriving in a Maui County port or airport must follow the state’s mandatory 14-day quarantine.  The quarantine includes travel between Maui to Hawaiʻi Island or Kauaʻi, as well as travel to and from Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi.

152 New COVID-19 Cases in Hawai‘i (O‘ahu 147, Big Island 3, Maui 1, Kaua‘i 1)

Hawai‘i has recorded another triple-digit day for new COVID-19 cases in the state. The state Department of Health is reporting 152 newly diagnosed positive cases of COVID-19 today, with 147 on O‘ahu, three on Hawai‘i Island and one each on Maui and Kauaʻi.

State Parks Officials Report Compliance with Closures on O‘ahu

No citations were issued on the first day of closures of all State Parks and beaches on O‘ahu. Earlier in the week, prior to the announcement of state and county parks closures, a social media post had promoted a bonfire party for the Mokuleia section of the park.

BREAKING: 231 New COVID-19 Cases in Hawai‘i, One More Death

The state Department of Health is reporting 231 newly diagnosed positive cases of COVID-19 today, with 223 on O‘ahu, five on Hawai‘i Island and three on Maui.  Today, the Health Department also reports the death of an O‘ahu man, older than 60, who passed away yesterday.

Doctors On Call Maui Clinic Reopens August 10

Doctors On Call, Maui’s Urgent Care clinic, reopens on August 10. Located at Times Shopping Plaza in Lahaina, the clinic will be open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is needed and walk-ins are accepted. New primary care patients are also welcome.

UPDATE: First COVID-19 Positive Inmate in Hawai‘i, Four Staff at Other Facilities Test Positive

A new inmate housed at the Oʻahu Community Correctional Center tested positive for COVID-19, becoming the first confirmed inmate case within the Hawaiʻi Department of Public Safety. In unrelated cases, one adult correctional officer at the Hālawa Correctional Facility and two ACOs at the Waiawa Correctional Facility have tested positive for COVID-19.

O‘ahu Public School on Complete Distance Learning for First Four Weeks

Public schools on Oʻahu will go to complete distance learning for students for the first four weeks of the new school year.  Schools will start on Oʻahu on Aug. 17 as previously announced.  This change does not effect existing plans on the neighbor islands.  

Hawai‘i COVID-19 Deaths Increase to 31, Daily New Cases Exceed 200 for First Time

All but one of the 201 newly diagnosed COVID-19 cases, reported by the state Department of Health today, are from O‘ahu. Maui has a single new case.  There were also two deaths reported today: Both of the latest victims are men, and both are from O‘ahu.

BREAKING: Governor Reinstates Interisland Quarantine for Arrivals on Neighbor Islands, Starting Aug. 11

Governor David Ige this afternoon announced he is reinstating the mandatory 14-day interisland travel quarantine for travelers arriving in Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i, Maui and Kalawao Counties.  This takes effect on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020.  In making the announcement, he said, “There’s no question the virus is surging in the state.”   He said the decision came amid record high numbers and an increase in hospitalizations.

UPDATE: 152 New COVID-19 Cases in Hawai‘i Today; “Undercount” Resolved

The state recorded 53 new COVID-19 cases today, but state officials say the figure is an undercount as a result of technical difficulties with their electronic laboratory reporting system.  State officials plan to update the count as soon as the issues are resolved.

Two More COVID-19 Deaths in Hawai‘i, Both Elderly O‘ahu Residents

Two O‘ahu residents are the 28th and 29th casualties of COVID-19 in Hawai‘i.  The cases include: An elderly female, with underlying medical conditions, had been a resident at a Pearl City nursing home, but then was hospitalized. An elderly man, also with underlying health issues, was also in the hospital when he died.
