The arrest stems from a June 2, 2020 motor vehicle collision at 10:35 p.m., fronting 175 East Līpoa Street, involving a pedestrian and a truck that allegedly fled the area.

The number of reported crimes increased for five Index Crime categories: robbery (67 cases), +26.4%; aggravated assault (271 cases), +3%; theft (3,746 incidents), +2.9%; and arson (128 cases), +4.9%.

Police Investigation East Līpoa Road, Kīhei

Maui police have closed a portion of East Līpoa Road in Kīhei between Liloa Road and Kupalaiki Loop (makai) due to an ongoing police investigation. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.

Update: California Man Agrees to Return Home After Arrest on Maui for Quarantine Violation

The Maui Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating 36-year-old Joaquin Pelayo of California. Police say Pelayo has allegedly violated the mandatory 14-day travel quarantine by indicating he would be staying at a Kīhei home, however he has not been located.
