The Maui Police Department reports that effective immediately, Park Security Officers may issue citations, for violation of the rules and orders within Maui County Parks. The public can report violations by email to mpdquarantine@mpd.net.

Maui Police Chief Tivoli Faaumu released a video message about crisis support in the day following the death of a Maui Police Officer.  Preliminary reports indicate the 44-year-old off-duty male officer died after sustaining what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  

An investigation is underway into the death of a 44-year-old male officer with the Maui Police Department. Police say the officer was off-duty at the time of the incident. 

A 34-year-old Haʻikū woman was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol after a concerned citizen reported the suspected incident to police. 

A Kīhei man remained in police custody at last report with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hand after a barricade situation in Pāʻia early Sunday morning, police said. 

Officials have ruled the death of a federal law enforcement agent on Maui as an accidental line of duty death.  Special Agent John Bost III died July 28 at the Kīhei Police station, where he was employed with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

An Oʻahu man was charged in federal court with sending threatening interstate communications.  Sean Michael Fujiwara, 43, of Kailua, Hawaiʻi is accused of sending at least 21 emails that were threatening in nature or contained references to foreign terrorist organizations, or both.

Special Agents from the Investigations Division of the Department of the Attorney General arrested 57-year-old Tiny Nitro Tadani at a vendor booth on Ward Avenue this morning.

A 30 year-old Massachusetts man is dead following a taser struggle with Maui police in which he allegedly disarmed an officer of a Taser and proceeded to use the device on three different officers.

Twenty-year-old Anne S. Salamanca from Birmingham, Alabama was arrested this morning by Special Agents from the Investigations Division of the Dept. of the Attorney General.

A 64-year-old Maui man was formally charged on Wednesday with a list of criminal counts involving threats directed at the Kīhei Police Station and a run-in with an officer at the site, according to Maui police.

Police say the 41-year-old female victim, also of Kahului, was treated at the Maui Memorial Medical Center for life threatening injuries. The suspect remains in police custody and is awaiting formal charges.

A Lahaina man accused of a “hate crime” was arrested on Friday for assault charges related to a physical and verbal confrontation in Mākena last week that resulted in concussion injuries to one of the male victims, police said. 

Maui police arrested a 64-year-old Kīhei man on Tuesday morning for allegations involving attempted assault against a police officer, first degree terroristic threatening, two counts of criminal trespass and resisting an order to stop.  

Maui police arrested a Kahului area man for allegedly threatening to kill a male and female “multiple times,” over the course of several days, according to police reports. Police say Caleb Carpenter allegedly utilized a machete while confronting the two individuals during the alleged confrontations.  

Maui police responded to 8 burglaries, 9 vehicle thefts, and 7 vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from July 5 to July 11, 2020.

So far, 182 people have been arrested by state or county law enforcement officers for violating emergency quarantine rules in Hawaiʻi, according to state officials.  The breakdown includes 99 arrests on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, 46 arrests on Kauaʻi, 21 arrests on Oʻahu and 16 arrests on the island of Maui.

A 37-year-old Maui man was sentenced today to 10 years in prison for attempting to entice a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity.

A former Honolulu police officer was sentenced to four years in jail today for conspiring to force a man to lick a urinal in a public restroom.
