Celebrate Maui Museums is a collaboration from the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum, Lahaina Restoration Foundation, Makawao History Museum, and Maui Historical Society to highlight the unique diversity and history of Maui County. The exhibits were created for National Preservation Month in May, but will be kept online indefinitely for the community to appreciate.

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino announced this afternoon that Transient Vacation Rentals on Maui will be allowed to operate starting on Tuesday, June 16, but can only accommodate individuals who are not subject to the 14-day quarantine.  

With the reopening of interisland travel next Tuesday, Governor Ige and some of his top advisors are working on components necessary before opening up travel to and from the mainland and from foreign destinations.

Over the nearly two month period (between April 15 and June 12, 2020) eight arrests were made in Maui County for violating Hawaiʻi’s Rules and Orders, pertaining to the 14 Day Quarantine. In addition to the arrests, there were eight other individuals that were contacted by police regarding quarantine, who voluntarily returned home.

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino says he hopes “most if not all” Maui County businesses, including theaters and other venues will be able to reopen by around June 25th with health and safety protocols in place. Any decision on the matter is pending approval by the governor.  

There are 15 new COVID-19 case reported on Oʻahu today, pushing the statewide count to 706 cases in Hawaiʻi over the course of the pandemic. According to Lt. Gov. Josh Green, 10 of the cases reported today involved individuals from a single family.  “These are a result of the bump that we got from Memorial Day, but also very potentially from the protests,” said Lt. Gov. Green.

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea honored the memory of King Kamehameha I with a drive-through celebration and food drive for more than 800 employees during yesterday’s holiday.

The County of Maui matched a $115,000 donation from the Hawai‘i Resilience Fund at the Hawai‘i Community Foundation for COVID-19 relief efforts. The funds will be deployed to nonprofits Feed My Sheep, Hui No Ke Ola Pono, and Maui Food Bank to distribute food on the islands of Maui, Lāna‘i and Moloka‘i.

The National Park Service today announced that it will implement another phased increasing in public access to Haleakalā National Park, with certain areas open and accessible daily between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting today.   

Hawaiʻi Island Police arrested and charged 21 visitors for violating the state’s mandatory 14-day quarantine order in violation of Governor David Ige’s 7th Supplementary Proclamation and Mayor Harry Kim’s Emergency Rule No. 4, related to the COVID-19 Emergency.

There are seven new COVID-19 case reported on Oʻahu today, pushing the statewide count to 692 cases in Hawaiʻi over the course of the pandemic.  To date, 623 people (92.2%) have recovered including 113 in Maui County. There are currently 52 active cases in the state.

For outpatient clinics, only one essential caregiver may accompany a patient. All visitors to Kaiser Permanente facilities in Hawaiʻi will have their temperature checked as they enter the building. Anyone with cough, fever, or any other symptoms of illness will not be allowed to visit patients.

“Even though we have thermal scanners that are operated manually, the facial recognition would allow us to recognize people who are exceeding the 100.4 degree temperature as they walk through the terminal,” said Gov. Ige.

New estimates indicate that Hawaiʻi’s Department of Labor and Industrial Relations processed and paid out 88% of the valid unemployment insurance claims that have come in since the start of the COVID-19 shutdown in Hawaiʻi.

Kanahā Beach Park in Central Maui, which is popular among those in the windsurfing community, reopens for public use starting tomorrow, Thursday, June 11, 2020, Mayor Michael Victorino announced.

Maui fire crews were called to the scene of a house fire on Kanakea Loop in Lahaina on Wednesday afternoon.  The fire was reported at around 4 p.m. in the residential neighborhood with witnesses reporting fireworks seen shooting from the roof of smoking residence.

Maui police have launched a second degree attempted murder and criminal property damage investigation into an incident in Mauna Loa on Molokaʻi involving an altercation between a motorist and a man with a dirt bike.

More than $533 million was set aside for Capital Improvement Projects on Maui, Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi as part of the $5.1 billion CIP budget bill passed by the state legislature on May 21 for Fiscal Years 2020 and 2021.
