The Hawaiʻi Department of Health has confirmed a new travel-related case of dengue virus on Oʻahu, bringing the total number of dengue cases to 12 in the state in 2025 (one on Maui, 11 on Oʻahu). The affected individual in this current case was exposed to the virus while traveling in a region where dengue is common and is not connected to prior cases.

UH: Rapa Nui’s iconic moai statues threatened by sea level rise
By 2080 rising sea levels could cause seasonal waves to reach Ahu Tongariki, the iconic ceremonial platform that is part of the Rapa Nui National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site, according to a study published in the Journal of Cultural Heritage by a team of researchers from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. This coastal flooding also threatens 51 cultural assets in the area, including Rapa Nui’s world-renowned moai statues.

On Wednesday, the council will hold a concurrent public hearing and council meeting for final reading on bills amending land-use entitlements for Honuaʻula, the former Wailea 670, a Kīhei-Mākena development project.

DOH responding to increased Pertussis cases in Hawaiʻi in 2025
