A new collaboration that aims to significantly accelerate AI model development for mobile, automotive, IoT, and other computing devices was announced today at the Snapdragon Summit on Maui. Dataloop AI, an end-to-end, data-centric AI development platform has entered into the collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., which is focused on computing devices powered by Snapdragon platforms.

Kahului Public Library to temporarily close beginning Nov. 1 to complete interior renovations

The Kahului Public Library will temporarily close to complete extensive interior renovations beginning Friday, Nov. 1. The last day for all library services at the Kahului branch will be Thursday, Oct. 31. At this time, the renovation project is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2025.

September unemployment rate remains at 2.9% for the state, 4% on Maui

The county’s unemployment rate in September was 4%, compared to the 8.5% rate in September 2023, a month after the Maui wildfire disaster in early August last year. In August of this year, the county’s unemployment rate was unchanged at 4%.

Lahaina homeowners can now apply to receive lot surveys at no cost

The Lahaina Homeowner Recovery Program announced that it will offer no-cost lot surveys for Lahaina homeowners who lived in their home before the Aug. 8, 2023, Maui wildfires. Funding for the lot surveys was provided through a $3-million grant to Hawaiʻi Community Lending from the Maui Strong Fund of the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation.

Coast Guard members, good Samaritans receive international recognition for Maui wildfires response

Coast Guard members and good Samaritans who responded during the Aug. 8, 2023, Maui wildfires received international recognition and awards during a ceremony at the J. Walter Cameron Center in Wailuku, Friday.  Altogether, Coast Guard responders and the good Samaritans rescued 20 people and assisted approximately 40 more during the Maui wildfires. 

Update: Rockslide impacts traffic near Honokōhau Bay

Update: One lane at mile marker 36 on Honoapiʻilani Highway in the vicinity of Honokōhau Bay has been cleared. A crew from the state Department of Transportation continues to work to clear the rockslide from the other lane.
