Latest agreement between UPW and Maui Health goes to vote
The Maui Health and United Public Workers bargaining teams reached an agreement following lengthy talks on Tuesday, March 14. Striking Maui Health employees will now review the agreement and vote on whether or not to ratify it. Voting takes place over three days, March 16, 17 and 18.
Youth advocates rally to ‘take down tobacco’ and end youth vaping epidemic
The Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawai‘i Youth Council is supporting several bills that they say would help end the youth vaping epidemic and reduce the toll of tobacco in Hawai‘i. Among these bills is HB 551, which would end the sale of flavored tobacco.
Opening of Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum exhibit: LAND SEA AIR: Maui in Wartime
The story of the pilot training that took place at Puʻunēnē field during WWII and throughout the island of Maui has been captured in a new exhibit at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum on Ford Island, Oʻahu. The exhibit will be dedicated on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. in Historic Hangar 37.
Earth Day Sunflower Farm Music Fest to support food security in Hawaiʻi, April 22
Pacific Biodiesel founders, Bob and Kelly King, announced today they will partner for a second consecutive year to present a benefit farm tour and festival event, this time supporting the critical issue of food security in Hawaiʻi. The “Sunflower Farm Music Fest” will take place in a blooming field of sunflowers at the Kings’ family farm in Maui’s Central Valley on Earth Day – Saturday, April 22, 2023 – from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Chopped Champion! Chef McKenna Shea of Maui wins with Abalone on Food Network

Grants Training Workshop offered on Maui, March 31
The workshop will assist nonprofit and for-profit organizations that administer viable programs, projects or events that are designed to make a positive economic impact within the county. The workshop is scheduled to prepare for the Office of Economic Development fiscal year grants funding, which is pending final approval by the Maui County Council.

Mayor Bissen to honor Maui’s milestone blood donors
Mayor Bissen is partnering with The Blood Bank of Hawaiʻi to honor more than 45 donors on Wednesday, March 22 at 8 a.m. who have made at least 100 lifetime donations.
Blood Bank of Hawaiʻi will also host a blood drive for Maui residents, Wednesday, March 21-23 at the Cameron Center in Wailuku.

Hawaiian Music Series features Liz Morales and Jordan Soon, March 30

Water shutdown to affect 300 customers in Pukalani on March 16, 2023
A water service outage will affect about 300 customers in the area along Old Haleakalā Highway in Pukalani from 9 p.m. Thursday, March 16 to 5 a.m. Friday, March 17. The outage will occur while two fire hydrants are relocated on the sidewalk along Old Haleakalā Highway.
PARK MAUI to hold Lahaina open house, March 25
Subject to Maui County Council approval, the pilot phase is designed to allow Maui County residents who register to receive free parking at Maui parks and beaches at all times, as well as one to two hours of free or discounted parking in small towns. Under the proposal, non-Maui County residents would have the option to pre-purchase weekly or discounted monthly beach parking passes.
County of Maui solicits applications for Economic Diversification grants
In response to the priorities identified, the Maui County Council set aside $320,000 last year for the grants. The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. on March 3, 2023.
