Widespread power outages on Maui
Power restoration continues: As of 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, outages continued in parts of Kīhei, pockets in Kahului, Haʻikū, Olowalu, Olinda and Pi’iholo areas. Hawaiian Electric reports that crews will be working on repairs this morning to restore power to remaining customers.

Due to heavy rain events, the Department of Water Supply is issuing a water conservation request for Kaunakakai, Molokaʻi. Numerous power outages, have resulted in the loss of the Kualapuʻu well pump which services the Kaunakakai area.
Maui storm updates for Monday: weather warnings, road closures, cancellations
A Island Flash Flood Warning is in effect on Hawaiʻi Island until 8 p.m. There’s also a Winter Storm Warning for the Big Island Summits until 6 a.m. Tuesday with additional snow accumulations of up to 8 inches expected and wind gusts as high as 120 mph.
Update: Hāna Shelter OPENS; Shelters CLOSE in Central and South Maui
As of 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022, emergency shelters have opened in Central and South Maui at: War Memorial Gym in Wailuku; and Kamaliʻi Elementary School Cafeteria in Kīhei.
Haleakalā National Park closures due to severe weather
The Summit District of Haleakalā National Park and the Pīpīwai Trail in the Kīpahulu District are closed due to severe weather effective Dec. 18, 2022 at 4 p.m. All sunrise reservations on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, have been canceled.
Coast Guard suspends its search for missing aircrew off Maui
The Coast Guard has suspended the active search of East Maui Sunday for a missing aircraft and the three crew members aboard. Since Thursday evening, the USCG has searched more than 4,732 square nautical miles.
20 injured after Hawaii bound flight encounters “severe turbulence”
Twenty people were injured including 13 people who were transported by ambulance to area hospitals after the flight they were on encountered “severe turbulence” shortly before arrival in Honolulu, Sunday, airline representatives said at an afternoon press conference that was live-streamed on the Hawaiʻi News Now website.
Inclement weather forces closure of Maui County pools and municipal golf course
The County of Maui’s Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that due to heavy rains and flooding, the Waiehu Municipal Golf Course is closed and will remain closed through Monday, Dec. 19, 2022. Storm-generated lightning has also closed all Maui County pools.
