Pāʻia Bay shark attack victim leaves hospital; Maui ocean official sheds light on incident
Pāʻia Bay was calm late Friday afternoon, nearly one week after a shark attacked and removed a woman’s left arm. The shark attack victim, a 51-year-old visitor from France, was discharged from the hospital Wednesday, a hospital spokeswoman told Maui Now.
Missing Person: Kauaʻi man last seen in Hāna, Maui on Aug. 30
Osborn was last seen on Aug. 30, 2022, at approximately 8 p.m. at his vacation rental in Hāna. His personal effects were found in the rental, according to police.

If approved, new rules for Maui’s downhill bike industry would set age, location limits
After turning its wheels for many months, a Maui County Council committee on Thursday finally recommended new rules intended to boost safety for the downhill biking industry, including minimum age requirements and restrictions on tour volumes, locations and timeframes. The committee meeting coincided with a bicyclist injury at Kekaulike Avenue/Haleakalā Highway, Maui Police Department confirmed later in the day. A call for service around 9:45 a.m. reported an injury where a bicyclist fell over; medics and Maui Fire Department responded to the scene.

Pellet gun recovered from Maui teen aboard a school bus
Officers conducted a traffic stop and detained a 15-year-old boy. Police say investigators with the Juvenile Crime Prevention Division recovered a pellet gun and 1.35 grams of marijuana from the teen who was on a school bus in Kahului.
