DBEDT Report: “It Will Take Six Years for Visitor Arrivals to Recover to the 2019 Level”

According to the report, Hawaiʻi could see a return to 2019 visitor arrivals (to 10.4 million) in 2025.  That’s based on a list of facts and assumptions that also takes into account the timing of the resumption of cruise visitors the reopening of visitor industry business, among other economic factors.

Third Consecutive Day with No New COVID-19 Cases in Hawai‘i: Total Remains 643; 94.7% Recovered

For the third consecutive day, Hawaiʻi’s COVID-19 case count remained unchanged at 643, with no new cases reported.   To date, 593 people (94.7%) have recovered including 106 in Maui County. There are currently 33 active cases in the state.

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino this morning said he’s asking that the resumption of dine-in restaurant services on Maui be moved from the previously announced June 5th date to an earlier June 1st date instead; but he’s awaiting approval from the governor’s office.

Deadly Motorcycle Accident in Mā‘alaea Claims Life of Maui Man

A 66-year-old motorcyclist from Kahana, Maui died as the result of a motor vehicle collision on the Honoapiʻilani Highway in Māʻalaea on Memorial Day. A police investigation reveals that the motorcyclist was operating a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle and was traveling south bound on the Honoapiʻilani Highway when he attempted to execute a left turn from the highway onto Kapoli Street.

As of noon on Monday, May 25, 2020, there are 643 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with no  new cases reported today.  *As a result of updated information provided by the state Department of Health, one case was removed from the list for individuals who required hospitalization.   To date, 592 people (94.5%) have recovered including 105 in Maui County. There are currently 34 active cases in the state.
