The department reports that the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu is among 20 airports in the US with a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention quarantine station.  The state Department of Transportation is working with the CDC and the Hawaiʻi Department of Health in monitoring for the Coronavirus amid the 2019-nCoV outbreak in China.

The USGS is reporting a 7.7 preliminary magnitude earthquake in the Cuba region.  The quake was reported at 9:10 a.m. HST on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020, at a depth of six miles. There were no immediate threat alerts posted by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

On the roadways, lane closures are planned at two spots along the Hāna Highway for ongoing road work being conducted by the Hawaiʻi State Department of Transportation. 

The public is advised of a water quality exceedance of enterococci at Hanakaʻōʻō, Maui. Levels of 137 per 100 mL have been detected during routine beach monitoring, slightly exceeding the threshold level of 130 enterococci per 100 mL.

A Maui man was sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison and three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to possession of stolen firearms, according to the Justice Department officials.
