The impacts from the Maui wildfires were significant in September 2023 with both visitor arrivals and visitor expenditures down by more than 50% for Maui for the month compared to 2022.

Hirono announces more than $7.4M to help Hawaiʻi households with home energy costs

US Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI), a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, announced that Hawaiʻi was awarded more than $7.4 million in funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). She said this funding will help individuals and families with low incomes in Hawaiʻi lower their home energy costs, such as their cooling bills in the summer.

While monetary contributions and fundraisers have been helpful, the Kōkua for Maui program offers the public a chance to connect with individuals and businesses and create an added economic boost.

CocoNene to raise money for fire-affected Maui Businesses with “Maui Biz Ornaments”

The collection of wooden collectable ornaments will feature participating Maui businesses and will be available for purchase starting on Nov. 3, 2023 on the HI Biz website. Organizers say 50% of the sales from these ornaments will be channeled directly to the affected businesses, aiding their efforts to recover and rebuild.

Mortgage Assistance event this Friday and Saturday in West Maui

The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Division of Financial Institutions is hosting a Mortgage Assistance Event to provide support for homeowners and business owners that have been impacted by the Maui wildfires.  The event will be on Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa (200 Nohea Kai Drive, Lahaina, Hawaiʻi 96761) in the Monarchy Ballrooms 1 and 2—formerly the site of the American Red Cross Family Assistance Center.
