Maui Lane Closures This Week in Lahaina and Kula

The state Department of Transportation has several road work projects planned this week that will result in lane closures.  Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

Kamehameha Schools Preschool Program Applications Available Nov. 1

The event allows residents (non-commercial) to responsibly dispose of the following bulky-items at no charge: Air Conditioners, Batteries (lead acid only), Bicycles, Washers and Dryers, Dishwashers, Microwaves, Refrigerators, Stoves, Tires (suggested $10 donation per tire), Water Heaters, Scrap Metal, and Electronics (TVs, printers, computers, monitors & associated cords only).

Nov. 1, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 83 New Cases (53 O‘ahu, 26 Hawai‘i Island, 1 Kaua‘i, 3 Out of State)

There were 83 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 53 on O‘ahu, 26 on Hawai‘i Island, one on Kaua‘i, and three in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed outside of the state. Lānaʻi, Moloka‘i and Maui had no new cases today. The cumulative total of cases in Maui County is 524 cases over the course of the pandemic.  To date, there have been 17 cases on the island Molokaʻi and 99 on Lāna‘i and 408 on Maui.

Thanksgiving Food Drive at Maui Mall, Nov. 1-20

Maui Mall hosts a Thanksgiving food drive, Nov. 1-20, 2020. Participating merchants, which will have bins for shelf-safe donations within their stores, including: Cricket Wireless, Subway, Genki Sushi, IHOP, Maui County Business Resource Center, Whole Foods and Baskin Robbins.

Rare Seedlings Planted at Auwahi to Prevent Extinction of Native Hawaiian Tree

A small group from the Auwahi Forest Restoration Project gathered on the leeward slopes of Haleakalā to return six seedlings of one of the rarest trees in the world, mēhamehame (Flueggea neowawraea) back to the wild. In doing this, the global population of this tree species was increased by 12%.

Food Distribution in Haʻikū, Friday, Nov. 6 from 9 to 11 a.m.

A drive-thru food distribution event will be held on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020 between 9 to 11 a.m. at the Kalanikahua Hou Chuch in Haʻikū. The food drive is open to the public and attendees are requested to reserve a bag and time slot online or by texting (808) 385-3176.

There were 94 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 74 on O‘ahu, 14 on Hawai‘i Island, three on Maui, two on Lānaʻi and one on Kaua‘i. Moloka‘i had no new cases today. The Maui cases today were in: Wailuku, Kīhei and Haʻikū. On Lānaʻi, the two new cases bring the total number of infections associated with the recent outbreak to 98, since the outbreak was first reported on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020.

New Maui Rain Garden to Promote Pollution Prevention, Driver Safety

The project funnels rainwater from HWY-M’s office rooftop to nourish a garden planted with native foliage, and will be used to support the state Highway Division’s ongoing efforts to safeguard Maui’s environment and promote highway safety.
