The Reliable Emergency Alert Distribution Improvement (READI) Act, a bill reintroduced in March by US Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) and three other representatives, passed the House by voice vote Tuesday and now goes to the Senate for consideration.

The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management will hold its Hāna Metals and Electronics Recycling Event as an appointment-only event after two previously postponed events due to COVID-19. The recycling event will be held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 3-5, 2020 at the Hāna Landfill for East Maui residents. 

There were 53 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 37 on O‘ahu, six on Hawai‘i Island, two on Maui, and eight in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed outside of the state. Kaua‘i, Lānaʻi and Moloka‘i had no new cases today.  At least one of the new Maui cases was in Kīhei according to the latest mapping updates provided by the state Department of Health.

Maui police responded to six burglaries, nine vehicle thefts and seven vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from Nov. 8 to 14, 2020.

The annual Paddle For Hunger, organized by Hawaiian Paddle Sports to support the Maui Food Bank, will be virtual Nov. 19-25 out of an abundance of caution due to Covid-19.

Fresh produce will be distributed on Lanaʻi to families impacted by COVID-19 on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The distribution will take place from 1 to 2 pm, or until supplies run out.

A member of Akakū tested positive for the Coronavirus over the weekend, announced Jay April, President and CEO of Akakū Community Television. Akakū will be closed and sanitized until after the Thanksgiving holiday.

A mobile hygiene unit used by unsheltered homeless in South Maui was broken into yesterday, with many items stolen, rendering the unit inoperable, according to the Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Centers. The organization estimates that damages and loss at $10,000 and possibly more.

Chaminade University has launched a new fully online School Counseling graduate program for Neighbor Island students. The first classes are scheduled to begin in April 2021. 

A 41-year-old California man suffered multiple injuries to his body after falling approximately 20 feet from a waterfall onto rocks below in the area known as “Bamboo Forest” in the East Maui town of Kailua.

Gov. David Ige issued a 15th COVID-19 emergency proclamation that extends and clarifies the statewide mask mandate as agreed to by all four counties and the state.

Vouchers were sent to some 6,000 individuals and families impacted by COVID-19 on Maui as part of a Thaksgiving giveaway from the County of Maui.
