The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management this week notified the US Environmental Protection Agency and the state Department of Health, reporting October 2016 findings from wastewater test samples of the presence of nitrophenol. The chemical is a metabolite of methyl parathion, the active ingredient in Penncap-M, the same banned pesticide identified in the recent Monsanto case on Maui.

Update, Advisory Lifted: High Bacteria Count Advisory at Wailea Beach

The public is advised of a water quality exceedance of enterococci at Wailea Beach, Maui. Levels of 384 per 100 mL were detected during routine beach monitoring by the Department of Health Clean Water Branch.  That’s above the threshold of 130 enterococci per 100 mL.
