The popular, longtime Healthy Baby Contest will return to the Maui County Fair at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, on the War Memorial Special Events Complex entertainment stage.

Homeowners in the Wahikuli Houselots Subdivision are encouraged to attend an in-person workshop on the Wahikuli Gravity Sewer Design Project on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lahaina Resource Center at Lahaina Gateway.

The 21st Annual Lahaina Town Cleanup, held in conjunction with the Ocean Conservancy’s “International Coastal Cleanup” and Mālama Maui Nui’s “Get the Drift and Bag It!” campaign, invites both residents and visitors to join this global movement to remove litter and debris from coastal environments.

Rising tariffs and heightened policy uncertainty are expected to add to one-off inflationary pressures by late 2025 and into 2026, with the Honolulu Consumer Price Index projected to increase during this period. Kiko has re-intensified to a category 5 hurricane on its approach to the Central Pacific basin. According to a NHC forecast discussion: Kiko is forecast to approach the Hawaiian Islands during the early to the middle portion of next week. “Impacts from rain and wind remain a possibility, but it is too soon to determine the exact location or magnitude of these impacts, and interests there should continue to monitor the progress of this storm.”

Mayor Bissen is traveling to attend next week’s After the Fire USA 2025 Wildfire Leadership Summit in California. Meanwhile, he is monitoring Hurricane Kiko as it moves into the Central Pacific Basin on Friday and will shorten out-of-state travel if weather emergencies are forecast.

Motorists are advised that the right turn lane on Keawe Street onto Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30) at Lahaina Gateway will be closed temporarily on Thursday night, Sept. 4. Also, from 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, to 6 a.m., Friday, Sept. 5, there will be roving lane closures in either direction on Honoapi‘ilani Highway fronting the Fairway Shops in Kāʻanapali.

Hawaiian Telcom is introducing a new advertising and marketing campaign that demonstrates how its fiber-optic infrastructure is opening the door to a brighter, more digitally-connected world with more possibilities for Hawai‘i residents.

‘Īao Intermediate School will be closed today, Thursday, Sept. 4, due to an unexpected water outage affecting the campus. All after-school programs are also canceled. The campus is without water. The school is working with the county and facilities crews to restore service. Updates will be provided as soon as possible.

University of Hawaii Maui College Practical Nursing, CNA to LPN Bridge Program – the CNA to LPN Bridge Program – will host a site visit for initial accreditation of its Practical Nursing Program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). The College’s ACEN survey dates are Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, 2025.

The Hāna Highway is now partially open for contra-flow traffic as of 6 a.m. A downed tree is blocking a portion of the road in Nāhiku.
