Phase II response work begins at fuel spill site atop Haleakalā

Phase two of the spill response efforts at the Maui Space Surveillance Complex began on June 20, 2023. This comes after 700 gallons of diesel fuel spilled at the Maui Space Surveillance Complex Jan. 29 into Jan. 30, 2023. 

Back-to-School Supply Drives for Maui kids in need, through July 21

Maui County Federal Credit Union hosts school supply drives at its branches in Kahului, Lahaina and Wailuku from June 20 until July 21, 2023. These events are in partnership with The Salvation Army’s annual Adopt a Backpack program which provides backpacks filled with school supplies for Maui’s children in need.

Potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination prompts voluntary recall of specific frozen fruit products

The Hawai‘i State Department of Health Food and Drug Branch is warning residents of a voluntary recall by Sunrise Growers Inc., of specific frozen fruit products sold in Hawaiʻi, because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Committee to discuss Maui general excise tax surcharge, June 26

The Maui County Council’s Budget, Finance and Economic Development Committee will meet Monday at 6 p.m. to discuss and receive input on Bill 49 (2023)—which, if approved, would add a 0.5% surcharge on the 4% state general excise tax.
