A new survey has been released to Maui County residents by the SMALL TOWN * BIG ART initiative. Organizers say public demand led to the creation of a new 501c3 to expand programming into new neighborhoods beyond Wailuku.
Maui Nui Reefs and Waiheʻe Coastal Dunes among projects in Biden-Harris funding for Climate-Ready coasts
An estimated $3.1 million has been allocated to The Coral Reef Alliance for the restoration and strengthening resilience of Maui Nui Reefs. Thereʻs also $804,000 allocated to the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust for the restoration of loʻi kalo at the Waiheʻe Coastal Dunes and Wetlands Refuge on Maui.
Operation Keiki Shield on Maui nets nine arrests
The joint Operation Keiki Shield 17 law enforcement operation netted nine arrests on the island of Maui over a three day effort conducted Friday April 14 through Sunday, April 16, 2023. Two of the individuals identified were non-US citizens from the mainland.
Police say the individuals were arrested on charges related to internet-facilitated sexual offenses against children. All individuasl were being held on $100,000 bail each.
Maui police to conduct Coordinated Agency Emergency Preparedness Exercise in Kīhei
The Department of Education in conjunction with the Maui Police Department will conduct a one-day Joint Agency Emergency Preparedness Exercise at the Kīhei Elementary School campus from approximately 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023.
Rep. Jill Tokuda to host town halls on Lānaʻi, Molokaʻi, Kauaʻi and Kona
US Representative Jill Tokuda (HI-02) announced four additional town hall meetings across Hawaiʻi’s Second Congressional District to hear from constituents. Tokuda previously held town hall meetings in Hilo, Oʻahu, and Maui. The new meetings are planned on Lānaʻi, Molokaʻi, Kauaʻi and Kona on Hawaiʻi Island.
Maui’s unemployment rate rises to 3.4% in March 2023
Maui’s unemployment rate increased to 3.4% in March of 2023, up from 3.2% in February. When compared to last year, Maui County’s unemployment rate was up from 3.3%, and Maui Island’s rate was up from 3.2%.
