Six-year-old Kahului resident, Cru, has been waiting for more than two years for “Mickey to get out of quarantine” so he can go to Walt Disney World. On Saturday, Make-A-Wish Hawai’i and community members surprised him with an event to let him know that his wish would soon come true, according to a news release.

In state observance of the Independence Day 2022 holiday, all public libraries and library support offices will be closed Saturday, July 2, through Monday, July 4, a news release said. Makawao Public Library will be open with “special hours” on Friday, July 1, the release added.

Back-to-school supply drives for Maui kids in need, through July 15

Maui County Federal Credit Union is holding school supply and backpack drives at its branches in Lahaina and Wailuku. The supply drives launched on June 13 and continue until July 15, 2022. These events will support The Salvation Army Maui’s annual efforts to provide backpacks filled with school supplies for Maui’s children in need.

Maui Family Support Services awarded $80,000 grant by Hawaiʻi Children’s Trust Fund

The Hawai‘i Children’s Trust Fund awarded a two-year $80,385 grant to Maui Family Support Services to fund the nonprofit’s Navigation Services that helps up to 150 participants per year.

June 23-29, 2022 COVID-19 update: 15 deaths and 5,362 new infections in Hawaiʻi

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health reported 5,362 new COVID-19 cases for the week of June 23-29, 2022, which is 120 fewer cases than the previous week. There were 15 deaths.  It is the sixth week in a row that case numbers are down.
