Hospice Maui Grieving Loss of CEO

Hospice Maui in Wailuku is grieving the loss of their Chief Executive Officer, Dr. R. Gregory LaGoy, who died suddenly on Jan. 4, 2022. LaGoy had been the CEO of Hospice Maui for more than 30 years. 

Parking lot repairs announced for Makana Park in Kūʻau

The parking lot at Makana Park will be re-striped on Jan. 31, 2022, the Department of Parks and Recreation announced. The work will involve the use of large equipment and require the park’s closure for the day.

Jan. 11, 2022 COVID-19 Update: 2,929 new cases in Hawaiʻi

There are now 26 people hospitalized in Maui County with COVID-19, according to counts last updated at 9 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2022, from Maui Health. Eleven of the current Maui COVID-19 hospitalizations are in vaccinated, and 15 are in unvaccinated individuals. There are now two Maui COVID-positive patients in the ICU (1 vaccinated/1 unvaccinated) and one vaccinated COVID-19 patient on a ventilator.

For the chlorine to reach the furthest points of the water system, it may take up to seven days. Chlorine is already used as a disinfectant in the Lower Kula and Makawao water systems. Upcountry customers in Olinda, Lower Kula and Makawao are not affected.

Maui County drought alleviates after one of the wettest Decembers in half century

One of the wettest Decembers in the last half century quenched extreme drought in Maui County, which was suffering from the worst conditions in the state. In fact, a couple Maui areas set all-time rainfall records for the month, according to a report released today by Kevin Kodama, senior service hydrologist for the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
