Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, and continuing through Labor Day Weekend ending on Monday, Sept. 7, the Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division will participate in the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign.

Continuing through the Memorial Day holiday, the Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division will conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols. The public can expect an increased police presence, including using unmarked vehicles.

Red ribbons displayed on vehicles to remind motorists to drive safely this holiday season.

A total of 51 lives were lost on Hawai‘i roads so far this year. Transportation officials say “zero is the only number that is acceptable.”

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation is alerting the public about the “100 Safe Days of Summer” campaign, in collaboration with county police departments, to promote safe driving practices during Memorial Day weekend and throughout the summer.

Starting this Thursday, May 18, 2023, and continuing through the Memorial Day holiday, the Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols. The public can expect an increase in police presence utilizing unmarked vehicles. 

The Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division is participating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign through the New Year’s weekend.

The Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division joins forces with Hawai’i Alcohol Policy Alliance, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the State of Hawai’i Organization of Police Officers, and the family and friends of Hannah Brown for a Memorial Impaired Driving Awareness Rally.

The Maui Police Department launches its Fourth of July Weekend – Impaired Driving Enforcement Campaign on Friday, July 1. Enforcement will continue through the holiday weekend, with sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols planned at various locations.

Starting this Friday, Feb. 11, and continuing through the weekend, the Maui Police Department Traffic Division, will be conducting sobriety check points and saturation patrols at various locations to address impaired driving over the Super Bowl weekend.

The Maui Police Department issued four citations and made 13 arrests for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant during the New Year’s holiday impaired driving enforcement campaign.

So far this year, there were 15 traffic fatalities on Maui County roads, up 87% compared to the eight fatalities recorded at the same time last year. Nine of the fatalities this year were alcohol, drugs, and speed related, representing 60% of all crashes.

Starting this Wednesday, Dec. 15, and continuing through the end of the year, officers from the Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division will join law enforcement across the state to bring awareness to the dangers of impaired driving.

Maui police made at least one arrest during the Third Annual Hannah Brown Memorial Impaired Driving Awareness Checkpoint and Rally on Wednesday night along the Kūihelani Highway in Central Maui. Police say a woman driving toward the checkpoint attempted to turn around and switch drivers just as the checkpoint was winding down operations.

Maui police arrested 22 individuals for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant, and issued 81 speeding citations during holiday impaired driving enforcement over the Halloween weekend.

The Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division will be enforcing its zero-tolerance response to impaired driving over the Halloween weekend, beginning this Friday, Oct. 29, 2021.

Maui police joined families impacted by impaired driving by raising awareness during simultaneous sign waving events held Friday afternoon, Sept. 3, in Lahaina and Kīhei.

In addition to this weekend Memorial Day Drive Sober campaign, the Maui Police Department Traffic Division will be stepping up enforcement in checking for proper seatbelt usage all next week as part of the Click It or Ticket- National Seatbelt Awareness Campaign.

Currently, Maui County has sustained 10 traffic fatalities this year. Four of these fatalities or 40 percent involved someone impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Fifteen people died in car collisions involving an impaired driver on Maui this year.
