This year marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, which claimed 2,977 lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Thousands of others were injured — and many first responders and survivors continue to suffer from illnesses related to the attacks.

Flags rare being flown at half staff in Hawaiʻi remembrance of US Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina.

Gov. Josh Green has ordered that the United States flag and the Hawaiʻi state flag be flown at half-staff at the Hawaiʻi State Capitol, all state offices and agencies, and all Hawaiʻi National Guard facilities to honor the victims of the tragic shooting at Brown University and the mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia.

The US flag and the Hawaiʻi state flag will be flown at half-staff for a period of 30 days to honor the life and legacy of President James “Jimmy” Earl Carter, Jr., the 39th President of the United States, who died Sunday at the age of 100.

Flags will be flown at half-staff at the Hawaiʻi State Capitol and at all state offices and agencies as well as the Hawaiʻi National Guard in the state of Hawaiʻi, effective from sunrise to noon on Monday, May 27 in recognition of Memorial Day.

At the direction of the President of the United States, Governor Josh Green, M.D., has ordered the United States flag and the Hawaiʻi state flag to be flown at half-staff in honor of the late California Senator Dianne Feinstein, who served as a US senator from 1992 to 2023.

The flags were ordered lowered to half-staff on Aug. 10, to begin a month of mourning for those lost in the Maui wildfires. Flags will be lowered again from sunrise to sundown on Monday, Sept. 11, to mark Patriot Day. 

This action serves to honor Robert J. Dole who died this morning at the age of 98.

Governor David Ige has ordered that all United States flag and the Hawai‘i state flag will be flown at half-staff immediately, until sunset on Sunday, May 30, 2021, as a mark of respect for the victims­­­­­­­­­­­ of ­the mass shooting in San Jose, California.

Governor David Ige will order flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of former Vice President Walter Mondale’s interment. That date has not yet been set.

Governor David Ige has ordered that the United States flags and the Hawaiʻi state flags be flown at half-staff until sunset on Monday, March 22, 2021 in honor of the victims of gun violence carried out on March 16 in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area.

This action is taken as a sign of respect for the victims of the mass shooting in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where 11 public servants and one member of the public were killed on Friday, May 31, 2019.

Gov. Ige has ordered that the US flag and the Hawai‘i state flag will be flown at half-staff until sunset on Oct. 31, to honor the victims of the recent tragedy in Pittsburgh.

This action is taken at the direction of the President and in honor of those killed in a shooting at the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland.
