An elderly resident who was home at the time of the fire, was extricated by neighbors and family members prior to the arrival of Maui Fire Department personnel. Fire officials say one person was injured, suffering burns to their face and arm, while extricating an elderly female resident from the fire.

Fire Causes $6,600 in Damage to Nāhiku Cottage
When fire crews from Hāna arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke showing from the eaves of the single family home, and some flames near the front door. The incident was reported at 7:57 a.m., at a 500 square foot cottage located in Upper Nāhiku.
Hana Structure Fire Caused by Shrine Candle
An initial investigation determined that the fire was accidental due to a shrine with a candle on it that caused the fire. The fire as extinguished just before 9:30 a.m. and caused an estimated $5,000 in damage, with about 15% of the building involved.
