Winners of the 2025 Maui Matsuri Art Contest, sponsored by HouseMart Ben Franklin Crafts Maui, have been announced and their prized art pieces are on display at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Shopping Center.

The King Kekaulike boys and Maui Christian Academy girls claimed team titles at the season-opening Maui Interscholastic League surf competition Saturday at D.T. Fleming Beach Park.

Kids at Kīhei Charter School are getting hands-on learning, studying plant life cycles and photosynthesis, researching soil types, experiencing working in a group, and developing responsibility skills as they learn how to care for and water their class garden.

US Rep. Jill Tokuda on Tuesday announced her nomination of 31 students from Hawai‘i to the US service academies for the Class of 2029.

The goal is to give these students the tools and skills necessary to reach grade level proficiency by the end of the school year, ultimately building confidence and a love of reading.

Kolten Magno and Maui’s Little League All-Stars continued their run in Williamsport while his brother Kahi Magno kicked off the preseason with Lahainaluna’s football team. MIL girls volleyball also got underway as the fall sports season gets rolling.

This month’s free celebration features live music from Maui’s own Nevah Too Late, plus hula by Kīhei Dance Connection and Missy Aguilar in the food court.

Kīhei Charter School is extending the registration period for the 2024-2025 school year due to an expansion of the capacity of the school. The first day of school is on Monday, Aug. 5.

Six Maui County high school seniors have been awarded $1,000 each by the Josh and Souk Jerman Foundation Scholarship program. 

The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui is accepting applications for its annual scholarships to be awarded to graduating high school seniors with a record of involvement in promoting and perpetuating Japanese culture and/or language.

The National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils will deliver a state-of-the-art DON’T QUIT! Fitness Center valued at $100,000 to three elementary or middle schools across Hawaiʻi this year.

In response to the demand of Maui residents, the Kīhei Charter School announced that the upcoming school year (2024-2025) will have an additional 66 student slots for grades K-2, doubling the number of available student slots in those grades.

Students at Kīhei Charter School are hoping to become the first “zero waste” public school in the state, and in doing so, potentially become a model for other schools and the community at large.

Kīhei Charter Student, Addyson Binning, earned a Silver Award from the Girl Scouts for her recent completion of an educational video on how the public can help to Protect Our Oceans.

Maui Waena Intermediate School in Kahului has among the largest middle school enrollment in the state with 1,044 students. Kīhei Charter School has the third largest charter school enrollment in Hawaiʻi with 693 students.
