One lane of Puʻunēnē will be closed between Wākea Avenue and Kūihelani Highway from Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping work.

A motor vehicle collision on the Kūihelani Highway Thursday morning claimed the life of a 27-year-old Kahului man. The victim has since been identified as Victor Harris.

The state Department of Transportation has multiple lane closure scheduled on Maui for the week of Feb. 14-20, 2026. There will be no lane closures on Monday, Feb. 16 in observance of Presidents’ Day, unless permitted Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

The state Department of Transportation is notifying road users that all lanes on Puʻunēnē Avenue (Route 3500) will be closed nightly from 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 to 4:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13. The closure affects lanes between Wākea Avenue and Kūihelani Highway (Route 380).

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) is advising highway users that there will be an overnight closure of Puʻunēnē Avenue (Route 3500) next week, from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. to install new traffic signals.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation expects to complete the widening of Puʻunēnē Avenue by the end of March 2026, marking a significant milestone for relieving traffic congestion in Central Maui.

Striping work from Aug. 27 to 29 along with work from Sept. 3 to 5 has been postponed. Work will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 2. An update will be provided once the remaining work is scheduled.
EV charger replacement at Kahului Park & Ride
The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation is temporarily closing two of the EV chargers at the Kahului Park & Ride near the Kūihēlani Highway and Puʻunēnē Avenue intersection Saturday, Aug. 23 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for maintenance.
Update: Waikapū brush fire extinguished, all roads now OPEN
The fire near Waikō Road and Kūihelani Highway was extinguished as of 8:54 p.m., according to Maui Fire Command. All roads have since reopened in the area.

Hauling will take place nightly at 9 p.m., from Wednesday, Feb. 26 through Friday, Feb. 28. The transport will involve trucks in a caravan that will move the homes from the staging area near the Kahului small boat ramp along Kahului Beach Road (Route 3400) to Lahaina.

Construction of the permanent site for the Lahaina wildfire and debris is currently underway in Central Maui on recently purchased land and is expected to be completed in June.
Urgent storm repair work to impact traffic on Honoapi‘ilani Hwy. in Waikapū today
To safely make urgent repairs to a pole impacted by the storm, Hawaiian Electric crews will require a road closure on Honoapi‘ilani Highway between mile markers 2 and 3 between Waikō Road and Kamehameha Golf Course Road in Waikapū today, Jan. 31, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Motorists will be detoured to Kūihelani Hwy. and Waikō Road. No service interruptions are expected.

Night hauling of modular homes on Maui scheduled Friday through Sunday
Hauling for the state’s Ka Laʻi Ola housing site in Lahaina will take place nightly on Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30 beginning at 9 p.m. The transport for the FEMA Kilohana project is scheduled nightly, beginning at 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 30 and Sunday, Dec. 1.
