Dr. Ayasanonda, who is an emergency room physician at the Maui hospital, answers questions about rapid COVID-19 testing, universal testing at the Maui hospital, and how antibody tests work. 

2 New COVID-19 Cases Bring Hawai‘i Total to 643; 92% Recovered

To date, 578 people (92.3%) have recovered including 97 out of 117 cases in Maui County.  There are currently 48 active cases in the state including 20 in Maui County. The outbreak at Maui Memorial Medical Center in Kahului is now considered closed; however one COVID-19 patient remained at the Maui hospital as of Tuesday afternoon.

1 New COVID-19 Case on Big Island Brings Hawai‘i Total to 641; 92.6% Recovered

As of noon on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, there are 641 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with a new case on Hawaiʻi Island   To date, 578 people (92.6%) have recovered including 97 in Maui County.  There are currently 46 active cases in the state.  The outbreak at Maui Memorial Medical Center in Kahului is now considered closed.

No New COVID-19 Cases in Hawai‘i, Total Remains at 640, Nearly 92% Recovered

For the third time this month, there have been no new reported cases of coronavirus in Hawaiʻi. As of noon on Monday, May 18, 2020, there are 640 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with no new cases in the state.  This is the fourth time since the outbreak was tracked at the end of February that the new case tally has been zero.  Zero cases were also reported on Thursday May 14, Friday, May 8 and on Friday, March 13. To date, 574 people (92.1%) have recovered including 96 in Maui County.  There are currently 49 active cases in the state.  Mayor Victorino said that as of Friday, May 15, there were two active cases at the Maui Memorial Medical Center.

1 New Case in Hawai‘i Brings Total to 640 Cases, Nearly 92% Recovered

As of noon on Sunday, May 17, 2020, there are 640 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with one new case in the state–on Hawaiʻi Island. As of noon on Sunday, May 17, 2020, there are 640 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with one new case in the state–on Hawaiʻi Island. To date, 573 people (nearly 91.9%) have recovered including 96 in Maui County.  There are currently 50 active cases in the state.  Mayor Victorino said that as of Friday, May 15, there were two active cases at the Maui Memorial Medical Center. A total of 82 cases (13%) across the state have required hospitalization. A total of 579 patients (90%) were residents. As of today, there were more than 41,789 individuals tested by clinical and state laboratories, including more than 7,000 tests in Maui County.

As of noon on Saturday, May 16, 2020, there are 639 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with two new cases in the state–one on Oʻahu and one on Hawaiʻi Island.  As a result of updated information, the state Department of Health reports that one case was removed from counts from Hawaii County. To date, 572 people (nearly 91.%) have recovered including 96 in Maui County.  There are currently 50 active cases in the state.  Mayor Victorino said that as of Friday, May 15, there were two active cases at the Maui Memorial Medical Center. 

One New Case of COVID-19 on Hawai‘i Island; Nearly 91% Recovered in State

As of noon on Friday, May 15, 2020, there are 638 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with one new case in the state on Hawaiʻi Island. To date, 565 people (nearly 91%) have recovered including 93 (83%) in Maui County.  There are currently 56 active cases in the state.

No New Coronavirus Cases in Hawai‘i Today, One Resident Diagnosed Out of State Removed from Count

The state Department of Health reports that one Hawaiʻi resident who was diagnosed outside of the state was removed from the state count, resulting in new total of 637 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi since the state began identifying cases on Feb. 28, 2020. The last time before today that zero new positive cases were reported was last week on May 8. Prior to that, there was an eight week period of increase in new cases.  As of noon on Thursday, May 14, 2020, there are 637 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with no new cases in the state. To date, 564 people have recovered including 92 in Maui County.

Out-Of-State Resident Tests Positive at Airport Screening, Brings Hawai‘i Total to 635

As of noon on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, there are 635 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with one new case in the state on the island of Oʻahu. This new case involves an out-of-state resident who was screened at the airport and subsequently tested positive.

Two More Coronavirus Cases on O‘ahu Pushes Hawai‘i Total to 634

As of noon on Monday, May 11, 2020, there are 634 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with two new cases in the state on the island of Oʻahu. The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health reports that there were 561 individuals released from isolation; and 81 cases (13%) that have required hospitalization. A total of 574 patients (91%) were residents Maui County’s count remains unchanged from yesterday. Of the 117 cases in Maui County, at least 91 have been released from isolation, and 22 have required hospitalization.

1 New Case Today on O‘ahu: Hawai‘i Coronavirus Total Now 632

To date, 561 people have recovered including 91 in Maui County. Maui County’s count remains unchanged from yesterday. Of the 117 cases in Maui County, at least 91 have been released from isolation, and 22 have required hospitalization. As of today, there were more than 37,785 individuals tested by clinical and state laboratories.  Of that number, 37,153 were returned negative. In Maui County, a total of 6,781 tests were returned negative to date.  There were 36 tests returned on Maui since yesterday.

Hawai‘i Coronavirus Total Now 631: Maui Total is 117

As of noon on Saturday, May 9, 2020, there are 631 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with three new cases in the state, according to the state Department of Health.  To date, 551 people have recovered including 88 in Maui County. The state Department of Health notes that the cases that have died and one case that has left the jurisdiction have been removed from these counts. Maui County’s count is up by one from yesterday. Of the 117 cases in Maui County, at least 88 have been released from isolation, and 22 have required hospitalization.

For First Time in Eight Weeks, No New Coronavirus Cases in Hawai‘i

For the first time in eight weeks, there have been no new reported cases of coronavirus in Hawaiʻi.  The state’s total count remains unchanged from yesterday at 629 confirmed positive individuals.

Maui County’s count remain unchanged from yesterday. Of the 116 cases in Maui County, at least 93 have been released from isolation, and 17 have required hospitalization. As of today, there were more than 37,712 individuals tested by clinical and state laboratories.  Of that number, 37,083 were returned negative. In Maui County, a total of 6,691 tests were returned negative to date. To date, there have been 17 COVID-19 related deaths in Hawaiʻi, including 11 on Oʻahu and 6 in Maui County.

Of the 116 cases in Maui County, at least 93 have been released from isolation, and 17 have required hospitalization. In Maui County, a total of 6,559 tests were returned negative to date. To date, there have been 17 COVID-19 related deaths in Hawaiʻi, including 11 on Oʻahu and 6 in Maui County.

As of noon on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, there are 625 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with 4 new cases on the island of Oʻahu. To date, 551 people have recovered including 92 in Maui County. *As a result of data cleaning, one case previously categorized as Hawaiʻi County was re-categorized to Honolulu County.

Maui County’s count remain unchanged from yesterday, but was adjusted downward by one to 116 on Sunday due to data cleaning and the removal of a duplicate case on island. Of the 116 cases in Maui County, at least 91 have been released from isolation, and 17 have required hospitalization. As of today, there were more than 34,324 individuals tested by clinical and state laboratories.  Of that number, 33,703 were returned negative. In Maui County, a total of 6,298 tests were returned negative to date.   To date, there have been 17 COVID-19 related deaths in Hawaiʻi, including 11 on Oʻahu and 6 in Maui County.

Hawai‘i Reports 2 New Coronavirus Cases on Sunday, 17th Death

As of noon on Sunday, May 3, 2020, there are 620 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with 2 new cases in Hawaiʻi, including one each on Oʻahu and Hawaiʻi Island. As a result of data cleaning, two duplicate cases were identified and removed from the counts (One from Honolulu County, and one from Maui County), resulting in the total statewide count remaining unchanged from yesterday at 620. To date, 544 people have recovered including 83 in Maui County.

As of noon on Saturday, May 2, 2020, there are 620 cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaiʻi with 1 new case on Maui for a total of 117 positive cases on Maui. Of the cases in Maui County, at least 87 have been released from isolation and 16 have required hospitalization. There have been 16 deaths across the state–five of them in Maui County.
