An unidentified suspect remains at-large after an armed robbery early Wednesday morning in which he allegedly stole a vehicle from a Maui couple before fleeing into nearby pastureland. 

A probationary employee of the Maui Police Department was arrested on suspicion of second, third and fourth degree sexual assault, while off duty, police said.  The 26-year-old Makawao man was taken into custody on Monday, March 30, 2026, following allegations of sexual abuse and remains detained. He has been placed on administrative leave without pay.

The Maui Police Department issued an update on Monday evening regarding an ongoing investigation in Haʻikū, but released little new information.

The man involved in the officer-involved shooting succumbed to his injuries at the scene, according to an update from Maui police. The individual is described as a 40-year-old Pāʻia man. Police say the man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

The Maui Police Department is aware of a video on social media that shows a department member who appears to use unjustified force on an alleged suspect being taken into custody, police said.

Maui police have reopened all roads in Wailuku as of 11 p.m., after a nearly two hour closure due to a police investigation. The investigation also resulted in the evacuation of multiple streets in the area.

Maui police are seeking the public’s help with information on the owner of dive gear found near the Scenic “Pali” Lookout in West Maui.

Maui police have since identified the suspect as Mike Pharisien, 51, of Haʻikū. He was being held on unrelated charges, according to an earlier press release. Maui police have also identified the victim of the suspected murder as 54-year-old Steven Holm, also of Haʻikū.

Maui police tell Maui Now that a male driver on Maui Veterans Highway sustained an apparent gunshot injury.  The investigation is still ongoing.

The Maui Police Department is investigating an alleged assault that occurred on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at about 2:15 a.m. in the Vineyard and Hinano Street area of Wailuku.

Maui police responded to a call this afternoon in which a caller reported hearing gunfire in a Makawao neighborhood.  Maui Police Lt. Audra Sellers tells Maui Now that one individual is currently in custody.

A suspect remains at large after allegedly firing a single shot from a revolver into an unattended food truck in Kahului on Thursday evening.

Kahului Elementary School will remained closed for all students on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 28 and 29, and reopen on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017.

The investigation stems from the discovery of a lifeless body of an adult male, found near the campus of Kahului Elementary School at 6:46 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017.

Police arrived to find a backpack with wires and an antennae sticking out of it, tied to a railing. Police detained a 50-year-old man during the investigation.

One man was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for wounds sustained in a stabbing incident early Sunday morning in Kahului.
