Update: 6:57 a.m., April 21, 2024: The cause of a rubbish fire at the Central Maui Baseyard on Saturday is under investigation. The fire burned a pile of recyclable material starting at 10:36 a.m. on April 20, 2024. Maui fire crews accessed the area off of the Maui Veterans Highway and were able to extinguish the blaze by 11:50 p.m.

Maui fire crews extinguished multiple brush fires in the Central Maui area on Thursday, May 12. The Maui Fire Department confirmed that seven fire calls within a 90-minute time span in Central Maui were suspicious in nature and under investigation. Full report here.

Maui fire crews are battling multiple brush fires in the Central Maui area. The fires have resulted in the temporary closure of the Kahekili Highway in Wailuku, and the Maui Veterans Highway in Puʻunēnē. There’s also evacuations underway on Kamaile Street in Wailuku Country Estates.

A large brush fire that started Sunday afternoon in Puʻunēnē is now 95% contained as of 10:19 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, 2020. The area burned remains unchanged at approximately 1500 acres.  “Provided the lack of any significant rainfall through the summer months, fuels have become very dry across portions of the state. These dry conditions combined with breezy trades and relative humidity’s dipping below 45 percent through the afternoon hours will support extreme fire behavior today.”

Multiple fire units are on the scene of a brush fire in Puʻunēnē.  The fire was reported at around 1 p.m. 

A mid-day fire burned a quarter acre of brush in Puʻunēnē before being brought under control a short time later.

Fire officials say the fire was reported at around 3:30 p.m. on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2019, off of Firebreak Road. 

A fire near HC&D Ready Mix and Aggregate in Central Maui burned about three acres of light brush before being brought under control on Saturday.

Maui fire crews are responding to a fire at the Maui Eko Compost facility in Puʻunēnē. The Maui Fire Department’s Tanker 10, Hazmat 10 and Tanker 14 are on scene.

Maui police say the operator of a truck seen leaving the area of the Hoʻokele Street fire when it started on Friday, has been ruled out as a suspect in an ongoing arson investigation.

Fire crews are battling a new fire reported at around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019 in an area of brush near the new Hookele Safeway location behind Lowe’s and Target.

The Launiupoko training area is on 20 acres N of Punakea Loop. Training is also planned on 20 acres about 3 miles east of the Puʻunēnē sugar mill in Kahului.

Crews arrived to find an old plantation home fully involved in fire, across the street from the Puʻunēnē Post Office.

The 20 x 60 foot fire in Pu‘unēnē was caused by a utility pole guy wire that broke off & contacted a nearby power line, causing sparking from an electrical arc.

The Maui Fire Department will be conducting a series of field burns in a wildland firefighting training exercise in Puʻunēnē today from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Maui fire crews are responding to a brush fire in the Puʻunēnē area of Central Maui. The fire was reported at around 12:40 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, 2016.

Fire crews arrived on scene to find a 50 x 50 foot pile of bagasse, standing about 15 feet high on fire.
