Maui County hotels trail the state in occupancy rates in November

Maui County hotels had the lowest occupancy rates of Hawai‘i’s four counties at 58.9%, more than 10 percentage points less than the statewide hotel occupancy rate of 69.2%. It’s further evidence that Maui “tourism is really suffering,” as University of Hawai‘i economics professor Carl Bonham said recently.

Maui County hotels occupancy was 81.7% for July, with revenue per available room (RevPAR) at a whopping $505, up 41.1% from pre-pandemic July 2019, according to the July 2021 Hawaiʻi Hotel Performance Report published by the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority.

Maui County Hotels Doing Better in May 2021 than May 2019 in Two Categories

Maui County hotels have rebounded from the COVID-19 pandemic to the point that revenue per available room in May 2021 was at $314, 19% higher than at same time in 2019 — and the average daily rate was at $467, 35.3% higher than in May 2019, according to the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority’s latest report on hotel performance.

According to the Hawaiʻi Hotel Performance Report published by the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority, Maui’s RevPAR was $265 (up +7.7%); and average daily rate was $354 (up +5.8%) in November.
