Areas of War Memorial Complex in Wailuku will temporarily close to accommodate public events for four days in May, according to the County of Maui Department of Park and Recreation.

Bringing back the annual fall tradition of thrilling rides and delicious food booths is a challenge made tougher by high costs and the county’s focus on rebuilding Lahaina after the 2023 wildfire.

Certain War Memorial Complex facilities will close to the public on June 3 to accommodate the Maui AgFest & 4-H Livestock Fair happening on that day, the county Department of Parks and Recreation announced.

War Memorial Complex’s stadium parking lot, Little League fields, tennis courts and pool will close ahead of Baldwin and Maui high school graduation ceremonies set for Friday, May 19, and Saturday, May 20, at War Memorial’s stadium and track and field, the county Department of Parks and Recreation announced.

The War Memorial Football Stadium and Satoki Yamamoto Track and Field Facility will undergo field maintenance from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 6, 2022, with the Department of Parks and Recreation’s beautification turf team.

The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation will accept applications for Summer 2022 Tri-Annual Permits from Jan. 1 to Jan. 7, 2022, for leagues, schools and recreational programs.

Satoki Yamamoto Track at War Memorial Stadium will be open for running and walking only from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additionally, the Maui Interscholastic League will be allowed to use the facility for track practice from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A Thanksgiving Bayanihan Food Distribution will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 9 am at the War Memorial Gymnasium Parking Lot in Wailuku.

The reopening of the War Memorial Stadium parking lot has been rescheduled to Monday, Sept. 28, 2020. The delay is related to drainage work on the project and materials that needed to be shipped to Maui from the U.S. Mainland.

The Coach Soichi Sakamoto Pool will remain closed through Dec. 31 while crews renovate the restrooms and complete other improvements.

The War Memorial Complex Offices will be closed from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sept. 19 for internal training. The offices and facilities will reopen at 10 a.m. 

The War Memorial Football Stadium and Satoki Yamamoto Track and Field Repairs Projects will close the entire facility for construction on Nov. 26 through Dec. 31, 2018.

A total of four community events are taking place at the Maui County War Memorial Sports Complex this Saturday, April 30, including: the Troy Barboza Torch Run, the Battle of the Badges football game, the 1st Annual Maui County Carnival, and a candlelight vigil ceremony to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

The improvements include a $403,443 project to improve accessibility at the War Memorial Little League fields, and a $61,960 project for fencing and backstop construction at the Paia Gym Field.
