At 10:51 a.m. HST, on Wednesday, Nov. 13, Hawaiʻi became the 15th state to legally recognize same-sex marriage, as Governor Neil Abercrombie signed the bill into law before an invited crowd at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center.

Drive With Caution: Nēnē Nesting Season at Haleakalā

Nēnē breeding and nesting season has started at Haleakalā National Park, prompting an advisory to visitors to obey posted speed limits and exercise caution while driving in the park. Last year, park officials said that on average, there has been one nēnē road fatality per year during the nesting season.

Marine experts are asking the public to be on the lookout for the entangled humpback, and warned the public to never attempt to disentangle a whale themselves.

Weekend Rainfall in Kahului Sinks Record from 1955

The National Weather Service reports that a record rainfall of 3.52 inches was set at Kahului on Sunday, Nov. 10, sinking the old record of 1.78 inches set on the same day in 1955.

Ocean safety crews rescued two individuals from windy waters along the South Maui shoreline on Monday. The first incident was reported at 11:18 a.m. about 400-yards offshore from the Maui Beach Vacation Club

Beamer had reportedly taken a child from the residence and fled, but later returned the child back to the victim. Police say his whereabouts were unknown at last report.

Employee Suffers Minor Burns in Dragon Dragon Fire

A 52-year-old male employee suffered minor burns to his arms and face as a result of a fire at the Dragon Dragon Chinese Restaurant in Kahului this afternoon, fire officials confirmed.

Maui Veterans Day Remembrance Events

A remembrance ceremony will be held today on Maui in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. The ceremony runs from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Veterans Cemetery in Makawao, according to the Maui County Veterans Council.
