Kahului Service Center’s County offices are closed today due to power outage
County of Maui offices at the Kahului Service Center closed this morning due to a Hawaiian Electric Co. power outage in Kahului. Based on an estimated restoration time of 3:30 p.m. provided by HECO, the offices may not reopen today.

Microtransit is an on-demand, technology-enabled shared transportation service that uses smaller vehicles to provide flexible rides that are more responsive to passenger needs than traditional buses. The more frequent, flexible service would enhance fixed Maui Bus routes.
Maui County Fair announces shuttle service, parking, traffic updates
To ensure safety and efficiency for 98th Maui County Fair participants and area motorists, the County of Maui has coordinated free shuttle services, free and paid parking areas, rideshare sites and traffic impacts for the event from Oct. 2-5, 2025, at the War Memorial Special Events Complex in Wailuku.

Maui Bicycling League urges action on Vision Zero following well-attended Ride of Silence
Tthe Maui Bicycling League hosted its annual Ride of Silence on Saturday, May 24, along the Maui Veterans Highway Bike Path, drawing 37 riders and a powerful show of support from Maui County officials and the Maui Police Department. Held in silence to honor those killed or injured while biking or walking on public roads, the event also served as a call to turn Maui’s Vision Zero Resolution into real, life-saving action.
New Kahului Transit Center to open Nov. 20
The new Maui Bus Kahului Transit Center is set to open on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, at 18 Vevau St., near Kahului Public Library and fronting Kahului Lani Apartment Complex. All Maui Bus services currently operating from Queen Kaʻahumanu Center will relocate to the new Kahului Transit Center. The final day of service at Queen Kaʻahumanu Center will be Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024. The announcement comes more than three years after it broke ground in February 2021, and reported delays in project completion.
Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization names Batangan executive director
Kauanoe Batangan has been appointed executive director of the Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization (Maui MPO), the agency responsible for coordinating federal highway and transit investments on the island of Maui. He started in the job Sept. 3.
Diane Yogi named Deputy Director of County Department of Transportation
Diane Yogi, who has worked for the County of Maui Department of Transportation since its creation in 2003, has been appointed the departmentʻs deputy director. Her start date was Sept. 3.
Maui Bus to be rerouted during Nā Kamehameha Commemorative Pāʻū Parade this Saturday
Maui Bus service in parts of Central Maui will be rerouted and specific area bus stops will not be in service Saturday, June 15, 2024, when a portion of Kaʻahumanu Ave. will close for the 2024 Nā Kamehameha Commemorative Pāʻū Parade and Hoʻolauleʻa, the County of Maui Department of Transportation announced.

Sen. Schatz secures nearly $400M in new earmarks for Hawaiʻi nonprofits, projects
US Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, secured $394 million in new congressional directed spending, also known as earmarks, in the first half of this year’s government funding bill. Additional earmark funding for Hawai‘i is expected to be included the second half of the funding deal which is set to be announced on March 22.
Maui fare-free bus transit program begins March 1
Starting March 1, a new Maui Bus Fare-Free Transit Program begins on Maui, allowing qualified individuals to utilize Maui Bus fixed route services free of charge. The County of Maui Department of Transportation is beginning the new service on the same date that public transit fares—that are currently waived due to the wildfires response—will be reinstated.
List: Maui lane closures, April 30-May 6
The state Department of Transportation will be conducting road work this week that will result in lane closures at various locations. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.
10 New Maui County Paratransit Buses Blessed
Maui County paratransit bus riders will benefit from 10 new paratransit buses, which were blessed Wednesday and should be on the road within the next two weeks.
New Fares and Resumed Routes for Maui Bus Riders
