Five people displaced by house fire on Pikale Place in Wailuku

Five individuals were displaced and one person was transported to the hospital following a fire at a home on Pikale Place in Wailuku Monday night. The fire was reported at 6:50 p.m. on Feb. 24, 2025 at a single-story, single-family home.
Wailea condominium unit fire caused $210,000 in damage, displaces one resident

One person was displaced following a fire in a second-floor Wailea condominium unit on Friday night. The structure fire was reported on the 3100 block of Wailea Alanui at 8:16 p.m., Feb. 21, 2025.
Two people displaced after home fire on Puʻunēnē Ave. in Kahului

Two adults were displaced when a fire at an attached cottage to a home in Kahului burned part of the structure and its contents. Total damages were estimated at $47,000 to the structure located on the 400 block of Puʻunēnē Ave.

A fire at a Central Maui home was contained to a second story bedroom on Saturday night. The fire was reported at 9:33 p.m. on Dec. 14 at a home on Hoʻomoku St. in Kahului. The fire damaged a wall, mattress, nearby shelves and their contents.
Brush fire along Honoapiʻilani in Waikapū now 75% contained

Maui fire crews are responding to a brush fire reported at around 12:22 p.m. on Saturday makai of the Honoapi’ilani near the Kahili Golf Course in Waikapū. By 1:15 p.m., crews had gained 75% containment on the fire and forward progress was stopped at around 1:50 p.m. Department officials estimate the size to be around four to five acres.
Crews battle 4 acre brush fire in Piʻihana area of Wailuku; Flames knocked down

Thursday’s brush fire in Piʻihana burned 4.6 acres before it was 100% contained at 5 p.m. Crews remained on scene overnight to continue mop-up and address any flare-ups. The area received light trade showers overnight and this morning. Firefighters will continue to monitor the area throughout the day today. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Firefighters respond to brush fire in Māʻalaea

Maui fire crews extinguished a three acre brush fire in Māʻalaea on Sunday evening at around 8 p.m. The fire was first reported at 4:43 p.m. on Sept. 29 off of the Kūihelani in the area of Old Dump.

A fire along the Kūihelani Highway in Central Maui on Friday afternoon burned five acres of brush before it was brought under control. Fire officials declared the blaze 100% contained at 6:55 p.m. No damages were reported.
Grassroots nonprofit Mālama Kula installs fire detection cameras in Upper Kula

In an effort to mitigate future wildfire events, two of Maui’s first wildfire detection cameras have recently been deployed in Upper Kula, where 20 homes and 300 acres were lost during last year’s wildfires on Aug. 8.

Fire crews returned to the scene of the Pukalani fire at first light this morning to resume mop-up operations. Fire officials say the cause of yesterdayʻs fire is undetermined, but is not believed to have been intentional. The blaze burned 1.5 acres according to updated estimates.
Schatz measures advance to improve fire weather forecasts and promote use of AI to predict extreme weather

The Lahaina wildfire highlighted the dangers that remote communities face from fire, and the need for forecasts and warning services to reach them in a timely and actionable way. Schatz’s provision would mandate fire weather forecasts and warnings be disseminated to remote, isolated, or rural communities as effectively as anywhere else in the country.
Update/Open: Vehicle fire at Pūlehu/Hansen Road

Eight people displaced from Harbor Lights structure fire

Eight people were displaced following a fire at the Harbor Lights Condominiums in Kahului early Sunday morning. At least eight individuals were displaced and were being assisted by the American Red Cross. One resident was treated for possible smoke inhalation.
Crater Road Fire Sunday update: 80% contained, 574 acres burned

The Crater Road Fire has burned 574 acres since it was first reported on Wednesday evening. By 7 p.m. on Sunday, fire officials declared the fire 80% contained. Personnel with the Maui Fire Department will utilize an engine and a tanker overnight to monitor conditions, with work resuming on Monday.
Haleakalā Crater Road fire Saturday update 7 p.m.: 70% contained, advisory lifted for area residents, shelter on standby

The Crater Road fire has consumed more than 500 acres and was 40% contained at last report. Due to improving conditions Maui County officials have lifted the advisory for residents in affected areas to prepare for potential evacuations. The advisory was issued at 4:11 p.m. on Friday for the area above Kekaulike and Haleakalā highways between Upper Kimo and Waipoli roads, and was lifted at 6:57 p.m. today. Fire crews from Maui Fire Department, DOFAW, National Parks, and Air National Guard were on scene throughout the day, fighting the fire. An evacuation shelter at the King Kekaulike High School gym closed at 2 p.m., but will remain on standby if needed.

Maui County officials issued an update shortly before 9 p.m., notifying the public there are NO evacuations called at this time. However, Maui Police Department officers are going through Kula neighborhoods notifying residents to PREPARE to evacuate if necessary and to sign up for MEMA Alerts.
