Maui firefighters douse rubbish fire off Kūihelani Highway
Maui firefighters responded to a rubbish fire off the Kūihelani Highway in Central Maui on Sunday. The incident was reported at 8:28 a.m. on Nov. 23.
Maui live fire training scheduled Nov. 10, 12, 18 and 19
The Maui Fire Department will conduct wildland live fire training on Nov. 10, 12, 18 and 19, as part of our 42nd Recruit Class. This training will be conducted in Waikapū, across from the Maui Tropical Plantation.
King Kamehameha III Elementary closed Tuesday due to brush fire impacts
King Kamehameha III Elementary School in Lahaina will be closed today, Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, out of an abundance of caution. The closure will allow for a full inspection of the campus to assess any impacts of smoke exposure from the Kapalua fire.
Update: Brush fire above Kapalua Airport burns 15 acres, 100% contained
A brush fire in the fields above Kapalua Airport burned 15 acres and was 100% contained by 7 a.m. on Tuesday. The fire was first reported in fallow agriculture lands at 12:35 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025. Fire officials say the cause was accidental.
Haʻikū cottage destroyed by fire
A detached cottage and an abandoned vehicle were destroyed in a fire reported on Thursday morning in Haʻikū. The blaze caused an estimated $40,000 in damage to the 600 square foot structure, according to fire officials.

A structure fire was reported at 9:42 a.m. today near 2171 Kauhikoa Road in Haʻikū. An advisory was issued to nearby residents due to possible smoke impacts.

Holomua fire 100% contained
Maui firefighters gained 100% containment on the Holomua Fire at around 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025. The fire burned 380 acres since it was first reported at 1:29 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025, along the upper portion of Holomua Road, about a mile below the Baldwin Avenue intersection, in Pāʻia.

Maui fire officials have released details of a preliminary investigation into Tuesday’s Holomua Fire in Pāʻia, and have shared findings with the Maui Police Department for further investigation.
Holomua Fire 70% contained
Maui fire crews will continue efforts today to increase containment and work toward extinguishing the 380 acre Holomua Fire that started on Tuesday afternoon in Pāʻia. The fire was 70% contained at last report. Overnight, crews patrolled the fire area and worked to address hot spots.
