DOH Asks Hawai‘i Public to “Prepare like you would for a hurricane or natural disaster”
“When we have hospitals that are really worried about being able to take care of people, that is a crisis. When we see this exponential growth in the amount of people that are getting infected with COVID everyday–2,000 people in the past three days–that is a crisis. And at the point at which we overwhelm our resources, that’s a disaster, and that’s where we’re heading, and we’re trying really hard not to get there and that’s why we’re trying to work with the hospitals.”
BREAKING: DOE to Implement Weekly COVID-19 Testing Requirement for Employees, Volunteers
All Hawai‘i State Department of Education employees will be required to be tested weekly for COVID-19 begining Aug. 23 to comply with Gov. David Ige’s emergency proclamation and to help ensure a safe environment for students and staff, the Department announced today.

There were *1,167 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Friday, including 109 on Maui and six on Moloka’i.

An additional 24 inmates at the Maui Community Correctional Center in Wailuku tested positive for COVID-19 today, bringing the number of active infections to 84 among inmates and staff. The breakdown includes 17 staff and 67 active inmate infections at the Maui jail.
Aug. 12, 2021 COVID-19 Update: 549 New Cases in Hawai‘i, 1 Death
Of today’s 549 cases, there were 480 cases identified as confirmed, and 69 probable cases were added to the count. The confirmed cases included: 255 on O‘ahu (+35 probable); 116 on Hawai‘i Island (+6 probable); 40 on Maui (+25 probable); 50 on Kaua‘i; two Molokaʻi (+3 probable); and six in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed while out of state.

Kaiser Permanente hosts a COVID-19 pop-up vaccination clinic at Kula Hospital on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The clinic is offering the Pfizer vaccine to individuals age 12 years and older.
17 Staff, 22 Inmates Have Active COVID-19 Infections at Maui Jail
The Maui Community Correctional Center in Wailuku reported four more positive staff test results on Tuesday, brining the number of active infections among staff to 17 and inmates to 22, for a total of 39 cases at the Maui facility.
Vaccination Clinic at War Memorial Gym, Aug. 13; Free Testing in Pukalani, Aug. 11
A COVID-19 vaccination clinic will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at War Memorial Gym in Wailuku. The clinic is staffed by Minit Medical Urgent Care and all three vaccines will be administered, subject to availability.
