Free Community Testing Event on Nov. 5 for Moloka‘i Residents 

Mayor Michael Victorino announced today that free, COVID-19 community testing will be offered on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Pauole Community Center on Molokaʻi.

Single Positive COVID-19 Result Out of 700 Participants in Maui Post-Arrival Voluntary Test

So far, only one case has been confirmed as positive for COVID-19 out of the 700 individuals who have participated in Maui’s voluntary post-arrival testing program.

Lāna‘i Nonprofits to Receive $47,250 to Help Stop Spread of COVID-19

The Lānaʻi Community Health Center will receive $37,250 for COVID-19 tests and food supplies for grocery bags that will be delivered to 150 households on island. Maui United Way, serving as a distribution hub for PPE to nonprofit organizations in Maui County, will receive $10,000 to provide PPE to Lānaʻi healthcare workers, volunteers and community members.

Oct. 28, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 62 New Cases (41 O‘ahu, 5 Hawai‘i Island, 7 Lana‘i, 2 Maui, 6 Out of State)

There were 62 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 41 on O‘ahu, seven on Lānaʻi, two on Maui Island (both in Kīhei), five on Hawai‘i Island, one on Kauai and six in Hawaiʻi residents diagnosed outside of the state. Moloka‘i had no new cases today. Lāna‘i has seven new cases today, with 93 active cases since the current outbreak was first reported on Tuesday, Oct. 20, (this is out of a total 94 reported on Lāna‘i over the course of the pandemic).

“I’m very confident in keeping it under control… I think we’ve gotten the brunt of it and hopefully over the next week we’ll see a steady decline and leveling off… where the positivity rate will be dropping,” said Mayor Victorino.

County: Follow Best Practices When Handling Solid Waste During COVID-19 Pandemic

The Maui County Department of Environmental Management Solid Waste Division is reminding the public to observe best practices when disposing of solid waste during the COVID-19 pandemic. These best practices include: double-bagging waste that was used to care for sick people at home; and maintaining a physical distance of at least 6 feet from solid waste personnel.

Critically Needed Out-of-State Healthcare Workers Arrive To Help Local Medical Teams

Gov. David Ige welcomed about 50 out-of-state healthcare workers Monday at St. Francis Healthcare System in Liliha, where they are learning the operations of Hawaiʻi’s long-term care facilities. There are a total of 170 visiting healthcare workers, funded through the federal CARES Act, in Hawaiʻi to help with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Travel from Japan to Hawai‘i Begins Nov. 6 with Pre-Travel Testing Program

Starting Friday, Nov. 6, travelers from Japan may bypass the State of Hawaiʻi’s mandatory 14-day quarantine if they take a COVID-19 test from a trusted testing partner in Japan. The test must be taken no earlier than 72 hours prior to departure and the test must be negative.

Oct. 27, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 66 New Cases (50 O‘ahu, 3 Hawai‘i Island, 9 Lana‘i, 2 Maui, 2 Out of State); 3 Deaths

There were 66 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 50 on O‘ahu, nine on Lānaʻi, three on Hawai‘i Island, two on Maui Island ( in Wailuku and Haʻikū) and two in Hawaiʻi residents diagnosed outside of the state. Kaua‘i and Moloka‘i had no new cases today. On Lānaʻi, the nine new cases bring the total number of infections associated with the recent outbreak to 87, since the outbreak was first reported on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020.  

‘Ohana by Hawaiian Passenger Flights to Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i Extended Through At Least Mid-January

Hawaiian Airlines today announced it will continue to provide ‘Ohana by Hawaiian passenger flights between Honolulu and both Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i through at least mid-January 2021. Earlier this month Hawaiian announced the need to suspend both routes on Nov. 1.

Oct. 26, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 38 New Cases (26 O‘ahu, 9 Hawai‘i Island, 1 Kaua‘i, 2 Out of State)

There were 38 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 26 on O‘ahu, nine on Hawai‘i Island, two  in Hawaiʻi residents diagnosed outside of the state and one on the island of Kauaʻi. On Lānaʻi, there were no new cases since yesterday as officials await results of further testing.  The total number of infections associated with the recent outbreak is 78, since the outbreak was first reported on Lānaʻi on Tuesday.

The group is presenting a letter to the mayor which outlines four mitigation strategies including: the establishment of a COVID-19 task force for Maui; the implementation of the Perseus app, an anonymous tracing app already approved by the County Council; a mandatory second test for visitors; and a mask wearing social distancing education campaign by the county.

Oct. 25, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 121 New Cases (49 O‘ahu, 51 Hawai‘i Island, 18 in Maui County, 1 Kaua‘i, 1 Out of State)

There were 121 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 51 on Hawai‘i Island, 49 on the island of O‘ahu, 18 new cases in Maui County and one each on Kauaʻi and in a Hawaiʻi resident diagnosed outside of the state. On Lānaʻi, there were 16 new cases since yesterday, bringing the total number of infections associated with the recent outbreak to 78, since cases were first reported on Lānaʻi on Tuesday.  In addition to the the Lānaʻi outbreak, there was one case each in Kīhei and in Spreckelsville on the island of Maui.

Oct. 24, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 90 New Cases (58 O‘ahu, 16 Hawai‘i Island, 16 in Maui County); 3 Deaths

There were 90 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 58 on the island of O‘ahu, 16 on Hawai‘i Island and 16 new cases in Maui County.   The Maui cases include one new case in Lahaina and at least 14 new cases on Lāna‘i. Hawai‘i’s COVID-19 death toll increased by three to 212, with three new deaths reported on the island of O‘ahu.

BREAKING: Lāna‘i COVID-19 Outbreak Rises to 65 Cases, Mayor Seeks Approval for Stay-at-Home Order

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino provided an update this afternoon saying the total case count on Lāna‘i is now 65 confirmed COVID-19 cases, following the return of additional results.  Mayor Victorino is recommending a stay-at-home order and the closure of Lāna‘i to travel effective on Tuesday at 12:01 a.m.

Oct. 23, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 131 New Cases; Lāna‘i Cases Rise to 65

There were 131 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 67 on the island of O‘ahu, 34 on Hawai‘i Island and 29 new cases in Maui County.  The Maui cases include one new case in Wailuku and 28 new cases on Lāna‘i, bringing the cluster count for Lāna‘i to 48 cases since Tuesday.  

Lāna‘i Update: Residents Encouraged to Shelter-in-Place, 800 PCR Tests Provided

“Today, I am encouraging all Lānaʻi residents to shelter-in-place.  This is not a mandate, but a request to help stop the spread.   Please don’t go out unless you absolutely need to and take advantage of any delivery and curbside pick-up options that are available to you and your ʻohana,” said Rep. Lynn DeCoite.

Hawai‘i Unveils Framework for Vaccination Distribution Plan

Although a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Food and Drug Administration is not expected to be widely available until early next year, state and county officials and private-sector partners have already prepared a preliminary plan to implement a COVID-19 vaccination program in the state.

Oct. 22, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 18 Cases in Maui County (16 on Lāna‘i for a total of 20 Active; 1 Wailuku; 1 Lahaina)

There were 102 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 52 on the island of O‘ahu, 29 on Hawai‘i Island and 18 new cases in Maui County.  The Maui cases include 16 new cases on Lāna‘i for a total of 20 active cases there, and one each in Wailuku and Lahaina. Makawao/Pukalani (96768) drops to zero active cases.
