177 Air Passengers Arrive on Three Trans-Pacific Flights to Maui on Monday

Here on Maui, 177 people arrived on three trans-Pacific flights, including: 106 returning residents, 50 visitors, two individuals planning to relocate to the islands, one passenger in transit to another location, and 18 flight crew members.

State Moves Forward with Reopening of Public Schools on Aug. 4

Hawaiʻi Governor David Ige  hosts a press briefing this afternoon, focused on the reopening Hawai‘i’s public schools on Aug. 4. During the briefing, Gov. Ige said, “The August 4 reopening date was one of the reasons we decided to delay the pre-travel testing program for trans-Pacific arrivals here in Hawaiʻi.”

Keōpūolani Regional Park Partial Closure Wednesday for Drive-Through COVID-19 Testing

Minit Medical will be conducting the drive-through from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with diagnostic and anti-body testing available. Minit Medical will call individuals with all results, which are expected to take one to three days.

12 New COVID-19 Cases in Hawai‘i; 312 Active Cases Statewide

Today there were a total of 12 new COVID-19 cases in Hawaiʻi for a total of 1,393 reported over the course of the pandemic. The new cases include 11 on Oʻahu and one on Hawaiʻi Island. So far 1057 people have been released from isolation and 312 COVID-19 cases remain active in the state. 

Hawai‘i to Receive $3.3 M To Help Prevent, Respond to Infectious Disease Outbreaks

US Senator Brian Schatz of Hawai‘i today announced that the Hawai‘i Department of Health will receive $3,340,633 to help prepare for and respond to infectious disease outbreaks, including the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Maui DMV Update: Safety Check and Road Test Information

The State announced that all safety check certificates and stickers that expired prior to June 1, 2020, will remain valid until Aug. 31, 2020. The County of Maui continues to consult with the Hawaiʻi Government Employees Association union and Corp Counsel attorneys on implementing protective measures for County road test examiners.

80 Hawaiʻi Inmates in Quarantine at Saguaro As Precautionary Measure

There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 among any Hawaiʻi inmates housed at the Saguaro Correctional Center in Eloy, Arizona; however, 80 Hawaiʻi inmates are in quarantine.

28 New COVID-19 Cases in Hawai‘i; 314 Active Cases Statewide

Today there were a total of 28 new COVID-19 cases in Hawaiʻi for a total of 1,381 reported over the course of the pandemic. The new cases include 26 on Oʻahu and two on Hawaiʻi Island. So far 1043 people have been released from isolation and 314 COVID-19 cases remain active in the state.  Today, there was an increase of 10 cases that required hospitalization. To date, 1043 people (76.8%) have recovered including 121 (93.7%) recovery in Maui County. There are currently 314 active cases in the state, including eight on Maui.

103 Trans-Pacific Travelers Arrive on Maui on Saturday, including 18 Visitors

On Saturday a total of 2,105 people arrived in Hawaiʻi, according to new data compiled by the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority. Here on Maui, 103 people arrived on three trans-Pacific flights, including: 18 visitors, 58 returning residents, nine individuals planning to relocated to Hawaiʻi and 18 crew members.

Mayor Victorino Adds $3 Million to H.E.L.P. Program

The County of Maui has now allocated $5 million in general funds for the H.E.L.P. program, up from the initial $2 million when the program was launched. The program provided assistance to 11,775 individuals through the end of June.

On Friday, two groups organized distributions: Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui handed out over 1,250 enrichment bags to children, which contained healthy snacks and workbooks; and Roselani Ice Cream celebrated National Ice Cream day by preparing 1,000 free bowls of Paʻuwela Sunrise flavored ice cream for a drive-through distribution at St. Anthony School.

20 New COVID-19 Cases in Hawai‘i; 311 Active Cases Statewide

Today there were a total of 20 new COVID-19 cases in Hawaiʻi for a total of 1,354 reported over the course of the pandemic. The new cases include 15 on Oʻahu, two on Hawaiʻi Island and three individuals who tested positive, but their island of residency is pending determination.

Two Travelers Detail Successful Mandatory Quarantine

Both Cari Pang Chen and Kevin Barnard are from California, and while it is not required yet, both individuals as well as Barnard’s brother, got COVID-19 tests before flying from the mainland to Hawai‘i.

Maui Public Schools Prepare for Start of Fall Semester in August

The state Department of Education still plans on re-opening classrooms in August for the Fall semester.  The department’s plans were reviewed on Thursday afternoon with the Senate Special Committee on COVID-19.

Governor’s 10th Supplementary Proclamation for COVID-19 (Updated 7.17.20)

On July 17, 2020, Governor David Ige signed his 10th emergency proclamation, which keeps the mandatory 14-day quarantine in effect for travelers entering the State of Hawai‘i. Under the proclamation, travelers arriving in Hawai‘i will continue to undergo a mandatory screening process at the airport.

Hawai‘i Reports State’s 24th COVID-19 Related Death

An elderly O‘ahu woman, with underlying medical conditions, is the 24th death due to coronavirus for Hawai‘i. According to the Hawai‘i Dept. of Health the woman died on Thursday, July 16, and her passing was reported today.
