Maui Police Warn of Scams Involving Spoof Callers
The most recent reported ongoing scam is spoof callers claiming to be a representative of a federal law enforcement agency or local government, including the Maui County Department of the Prosecuting Attorney. The caller tells call recipients that there is a warrant or some other legal sanction pending against them.
Maui Crime May 30 – June 5, 2021: Burglaries, Break-ins, Thefts
The percentage of burglary cases decreased 20 percent from the week before when five incidents were reported. Vehicle thefts decreased 13 percent from the week before when eight incidents were reported. Vehicle break-ins increased 56 percent from the week before when nine incidents were reported.
BREAKING: Butane Honey Oil Lab on Maui Dismantled by DEA Clandestine Laboratory Team
Police say that through investigation it was learned that an active Butane Honey Oil or BHO lab was in operation on the premises. BHO is described by police as a marijuana concentrate.

The percentage of burglary cases decreased 29 percent from the week before when seven incidents were reported. Vehicle thefts decreased 11 percent from the week before when nine incidents were reported. Vehicle break-ins increased 29 percent from the week before when seven incidents were reported.

The percentage of burglary cases increased 40 percent from the week before when five incidents were reported. Vehicle thefts decreased 18 percent from the week before when 11 incidents were reported. Vehicle break-ins decreased 12 percent from the week before when eight incidents were reported.

The percentage of burglary cases increased 150 percent from the week before when two incidents were also reported. Vehicle thefts decreased 21 percent from the week before when 14 incidents were reported. Vehicle break-ins decreased 20 percent from the week before when 10 incidents were reported.
Largest BLNR Fine In Hawai‘i History Leveled Against Man In Prawn Poisoning Case
The Board of Land and Natural Resources fined 54-year-old Wayne Keaulana Spatz, of Hilo, $633,840 for pouring poison into Pāheʻeheʻe Stream in North Hilo resulting in the deaths of an estimated 6,250 Tahitian prawns. It’s the largest BLNR fine ever for an aquatic resource violation in the state.

The victim, a 42 year old man, formerly of Colorado, suffered a stab wound and other injuries. Police say he was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for medical treatment.

Waiehu Crash Claims Life of Wailuku Woman; Driver Arrested
A Wailuku woman suffered fatal injuries in a single vehicle crash on Waiehu Beach Road early this morning. Police have since identified the woman as Jamescy Akahi, 37, and say she was a passenger in the vehicle.
