Kula Community Association to host public meeting, Feb. 11

The Kula Community Association invites community members to attend its General Meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026, featuring timely updates on invasive species, water quality, watershed restoration, and East Maui water management. The meeting is open to the public and will be held in the evening, beginning with food and informal conversation.

Awaiaulu, Inc. to receive $500,000 from OHA to support Hawaiian language, culture, traditions, identity and sense of lāhui

Puʻunēnē Avenue night closures to switch over traffic signals

The state Department of Transportation is notifying road users that all lanes on Puʻunēnē Avenue (Route 3500) will be closed nightly from 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 to 4:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13. The closure affects lanes between Wākea Avenue and Kūihelani Highway (Route 380).

Cold front to stall over Maui; Flood Watch and Wind Warning through Monday afternoon

A front will stall over Maui County through the weekend, allowing deep tropical moisture to pool over the island chain. This in combination with a disturbance aloft moving over the state, will bring the potential for heavy rainfall, a few thunderstorms and flash flooding beginning this afternoon and continuing through Monday afternoon. The greatest risk for flash flooding is expected in windward areas.

Volcano Watch: New ‘Is Tephra Falling?’ citizen science tool launched in Hawaiʻi

Like the “Did You Feel It?” earthquake reporting tool helps make maps of areas affected by shaking, the new tool helps scientists map areas affected by tephra fallout; observations will be used to assess the character and size of the eruption plumes from Kīlauea volcano on the Big Island, along with the dispersal pattern of tephra fall.

The state Department of Transportation has multiple lane closure scheduled on Maui for the week of Feb. 7-13, 2026. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency (HIEMA) is urging Hawaiʻi residents to prepare for severe weather that is expected to impact all Hawaiian Islands from Saturday through Monday, Feb. 7-9, with the most dangerous weather expected on Sunday evening into Monday.

Governor issues Emergency Proclamation in advance of severe weather in Hawaiʻi

Gov. Josh Green today issued an Emergency Proclamation to alert residents to prepare for severe weather this weekend and to make state resources available in the event of resulting damage. The National Weather Service forecasts predict as much as 10 inches of rainfall this weekend, with rain starting as early as Saturday, while it is most likely to impact the state Sunday into Monday. The heavy rains bring the potential of flash flooding, particularly in windward areas of the islands.

Schatz secures $1.3 million earmark to support Hawaiian language early childhood education centers

US Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) secured $1.3 million in congressionally directed spending, also known as an earmark, in this year’s appropriations deal for ʻAha Pūnana Leo. The funding will be used to train teachers, support families, and develop new early childhood education Hawaiian language materials, such as books and videos, to help young children build literacy and math skills.

UH Maui College and Hawaiian Electric offer continued workforce training on Maui and Molokaʻi

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College, in collaboration with Hawaiian Electric, is bringing back the popular Maui Power Pathways Training Program, a free, 10‑week workforce training opportunity designed to prepare local residents for potential careers with the island’s electric utility.
