A new eight-passenger bus to transport East Maui residents to their jobs, shopping in Central Maui and medical appointments was blessed at a ceremony Friday.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents the Maui stop for comedian Trey Kennedy and his Grow Up comedy tour, Nov. 30. Kennedy is known for his rapid success due to his popular posts on Vine, TikTok and Instagram, amassing millions of followers along the way.

A Maui man was arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle from an elderly visitor in Makawao and driving the vehicle in the wrong direction on the Hāna Highway before crashing.

As of Friday, July 14, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Eric Loughran was located. He was reported missing earlier this week by family members.  The Maui Police Department thanked the public for their assistance.

With the opening of Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s inaugural edition of the MACC Biennial in Schaefer International Gallery, running now through Aug. 26, the Center has announced the recipients of three prestigious awards for MACC Biennial 2023.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation will receive a $22 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to construct a new Transportation Security Administration checkpoint at Kahului Airport. The OGG project will cost $62.3 million. Work is expected to begin in the summer of 2024 and to be completed by the end of 2025.

The Maui County Council will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. to consider passage on second and final reading of Bill 169, CD1 (2022), updating regulations to air and replica guns, and Bill 49, CD1, FD1 (2023), establishing a general excise tax surcharge, Council Chair Alice L. Lee announced today.

Calvin is expected to move into the Central Pacific Basin late Sunday or early Monday, according to forecasters.  Its remnants will likely impact the state beginning next week Tuesday, but forecasters with the National Weather Service say its still too early for details.

Severe drought conditions are now impacting the southern and western coastal areas of Maui. According to the US Drought Monitor weekly reporting, this is the first time the severe drought designation has been noted in Hawaiʻi this summer.
