Among the 1 million trees are a variety of citrus plants, including limes, lemons, tangelos, mandarins and grapefruit. There is also coffee, avocado, papaya, ‘ulu and several types of windbreak plants like panax, hau and milo. Milo was historically used in Hawai‘i as a drought and salt-tolerant windbreak plant.

There were 79 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Tuesday. The latest data represents a total of 1,526 “active” cases statewide over two weeks. Maui County’s seven day average of cases peaked at 57.6 per 100,000 on Aug. 25, and has been on a steady decline since the beginning of September, dropping to 6.7 per 100,000 today.

Visitor Industry Charity Walk Raises $2M Statewide; Maui Nui Generates $1.2M
Maui Nui’s individual fundraising efforts resulted in a total of $1,203,000 being raised. These funds will be distributed to more than 200 nonprofits around the state with all funds raised in Maui County being distributed specifically to Maui County nonprofits.

Federal Vaccine Mandate, or Weekly Testing for Large Businesses Starts Jan. 4
The US Labor Department issued its rule yesterday, requiring COVID-19 vaccinations for companies with 100 or more employees. Those who work for one of these companies will either need to get vaccinated or test at least weekly when the rule takes effect on Jan. 4, 2022.
