Free Grab-and-Go Meals Program Launching at 203 Public Schools This Fall

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education Grab-and-Go school meals program will be returning for the fall semester at 203 public schools beginning on Monday, Oct. 12, through Friday, Dec. 18, to provide free meals to children ages 18 and younger.

108 New COVID-19 Cases (102 O‘ahu, 6 Hawai‘i Island); 3 Deaths

There were 108 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 102 on the island of O‘ahu and six on Hawai‘i Island. The cumulative total of cases in Maui County is 391 cases over the course of the pandemic.  To date, there have been 19 cases on the island Molokaʻi.

Kapalua Fire Now 80% Contained, 550 Acres Burned

A fire that started on Wednesday morning in the brush above the Kapalua Airport has blackened an estimated 550 acres and is now 80 percent contained as of 11:30 a.m. today, according to Maui fire officials.

Doctors On Call, Maui’s Urgent Care, is opening a Rapid COVID Testing Center in Kahului. Beginning Oct. 5, 2020, Rapid Tests will be offered Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointments will be needed.

‘Overwhelming’ Need Continues for 30 Emergency Food Distribution Sites in Maui County

Since mid-March, when the Covid-19 pandemic led to an abrupt shutdown of Maui’s tourism economy, emergency food distribution sites have sprung up at more than 30 locations around the island, and on Molokaʻi and Lanai. While residents’ needs for food has ebbed and flowed based on government assistance availability, it hasn’t gone away. Far from it. Maui County’s unemployment remains the highest in Hawaiʻi – and among the highest around the country – at 20.7 percent. The emergency food giveaways continue.

KAPALUA FIRE: Maui fire crews are on the scene of a brush fire located mauka of the Honoapiʻilani Highway near the Kapalua Airport in West Maui. Ground and air crews are on scene. The fire was reported at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020.

Roselani Place COVID-19 Cluster Stands at 59 Cases; 12 are Active

The Roselani Place assisted living community on Maui has had a total of 59 COVID-19 infections since mid-August. The positive cases include 31 staff and 28 residents.
