Burglaries increased 50 percent from the week before when six incidents were reported. Vehicle thefts had no change from the week before when nine incidents were reported. Vehicle break-ins increased 71 percent from the week before when seven incidents were reported.

A team of 23 researchers from 14 academic institutions announced a study on the second minimoon ever discovered, dubbed 2020 CD3, on Nov. 22, 2020.

Maui cases included at least four new positive in Kīhei and one case each in Kahului and Lahaina. Kīhei darkened to the medium range two weeks ago with 36 cases reported there in the last 14 days.  Lahaina is also in the medium range with 12 cases reported over the same period.

Forests on the southern slopes of Moloka‘i are about to receive additional protection from threats like wildfires, erosion and flooding thanks to a new award from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. The foundation has awarded over $1.8 million to the DLNR to address threats using proven tools such as fencing and removing hooved animals, as well as creating firebreaks.

Hawaiʻi Gov. David Ige approves Kaua‘i Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami’s request to place a temporary moratorium on Kaua‘i’s participation in the state’s pre-travel testing program. Maui County officials say they are staying in the Safe Travels Program “at this point.”

Maui police arrested a Wailuku man for his alleged involvement in an assault against an off-duty police officer that resulted in life-threatening injuries.

Councilmember Michael J. Molina transmitted correspondence to the Federal Aviation Administration requesting adjustments to flight patterns over the North Shore/Haʻikū region of Maui.

The Safe Travels Hawaiʻi COVID-19 Evaluation Testing Program found 45 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases as of Nov. 24, out of 20,253 tests conducted (or 2.2 per 1,000) – since the program’s launch on Oct. 19.

The 2018 eruption of Kīlauea Volcano, one of the largest volcanic events in Hawaiʻi in 200 years,  was triggered by a relatively small and rapid change at the Big Island volcano after a decade-long build-up of pressure in the upper parts of the volcano, according to a recent study published in Nature Communications.

For the first time, the University of Hawai’i system is participating in the national annual Giving Tuesday initiative, on Dec. 1, to raise funds for the colleges and their students.

A 35-year-old California woman suffered severe trauma injuries to her front torso in an apparent shark bite incident off of Honokōwai on Thanksgiving Day.
