Starting Thursday and continuing through the Fourth of July weekend, the Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division will conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols at various locations to address impaired driving.

ACLU of Hawaiʻi requests records from county police departments regarding immigration enforcement

The ACLU-HI is asking the counties to produce copies of policies or internal guidance about county collaboration with federal immigration enforcement, including when police officers should question a person about their immigration status and when police officers should contact DHS, HSI, or ICE personnel about a person being questioned or under arrest by the county police.

Young Brothers announces leadership transition: Jay Ana stepping down, Frank Almaraz selected as Interim President

The inter island freight company, Young Brothers, LLC, has announced a leadership transition. Jeremiah “Jay” Ana is stepping down as President after leading the company since 2020 and will assume an advisory role through the end of the year to support a seamless transition. Frank Almaraz has been appointed Interim President.

New māmaki labeling law enacted

Gov. Josh Green, M.D., has signed into law Act 242, which strengthens labeling requirements for māmaki tea grown in Hawai‘i. Signed on June 27, 2025, the law became effective on July 1 and prohibits the use of certain words and misleading Hawaiian imagery, place names and motifs on the label of a consumer package that contains or includes tea or dried leaves from the māmaki plant, Pipturus albidus, unless 100% of the tea or dried leaves from the māmaki is grown in Hawai‘i.

An approximately 150-foot-long stretch of the makai lane on Honoapi‘ilani Highway is being undermined just about half mile south of Olowalu Village. Immediate actions include moving the existing barricades along the makai shoulder further mauka. Other work will include stabilizing the shoreline and pushing lanes more mauka.
