Walmart hosts The Wellness Event—a free, nationwide health and wellness experience—taking place Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Walmart stores across the country, including all nine locations in Hawaiʻi, including Kahului on Maui. Walk-ins are welcome and no registration is required.

Molokaʻi High School’s 21,000-square-foot gym, affectionately known as “The Barn,” launched a major upgrade project this month to better serve Molokaʻi’s students, athletes and community.

This temple will be constructed on a 7.6-acre site located along Kuikahi Drive next to an existing meetinghouse at 1300 Maui Lani Parkway in Kahului. Plans call for a single-story temple of 19,000 square feet and an accompanying ancillary building.

The Hawai‘i Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity is now accepting applications for the popular Micro-Grant for Food Security Program. This is the fifth year of the grant program which provides support for small-scale gardening, herding and livestock operations to increase the quantity and quality of locally grown food in food-insecure communities.

Starting Jan. 22, 2026, the construction and installation of a new playground at Eddie Tam Memorial Center in Makawao will begin. Once grubbing and grading is completed, construction will start for playgrounds at Kahului Park in Central Maui and Hale Piʻilani Park in Kīhei. All construction is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2027.

On Jan. 16, 2026, federal authorities informed state officials that they would provide to the attorney general evidence concerning an alleged incident involving an unnamed “influential state legislator” who is alleged to have accepted approximately $35,000 in funds.
