Tokuda meets with air traffic controllers across Hawaiʻi amid shutdown strain

Air traffic controllers missed their paychecks Tuesday because of the ongoing government shutdown, which just concluded its fourth week. As a show of support, US Rep. Jill Tokuda (D-Hawaiʻi-2) has met with numerous air traffic controllers on Oʻahu, Maui and Hawaiʻi Island to discuss its impacts on aviation safety and the livelihoods of federal workers.

UH Maui College closed Oct. 28 due to power outage

Due to a campus-wide power outage, the Kahului campus of the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College will be closed today, Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025. All in-person classes are canceled and employees who are able to work from home are asked to do so. Crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible. Further updates to follow.

Mana O Maui offers scholarship opportunity for January 2026 Surf Camp program

Mana O Maui is now accepting applications for full scholarships to attend a week-long, all-inclusive Women’s Surf Camp, hosted by Maui Surfer Girls, Jan. 18–24, 2026. These scholarships are dedicated to supporting Maui women who were deeply affected by the Lahaina or Kula fires of 2023 and who would  otherwise be unable to attend.
